(not my photo, but I got the black and red because clearly this is the best colour combination in all of the land).

Ok, so, I snagged worra's Bastl MicroGranny from BST and this is, hands down, the raddest piece of kit I've fucked with in a long time. Honestly I'm blown away. Did I only buy one because of fcknoise evangelizing? Absolutely. Was it worth every penny? YIIIISSSSSSSS.

For something that, in all honesty, I was expecting to be a nice Gakken-y level sampler as a fun toy when I didn't feel like/have power for my venerable SP-303, instead I got an amazing glitchtastic sample machine that is disgustingly intuitive, gloriously noisy, and so fahkin amazing I basically haven't put it down since I got it. You could easily do a whole set with this and the looper of your choice.

People hate on the distortion but secretly that's because they've had their ears replaced by goblins, because this sounds amazeballs.

A Cool Youtube demo/rundown for the demo visually motivated folks (not mine):

So. Who else has tasted the Granny?

What do you do? Are you also as enamoured with the way it destroys vocal samples as I am?
Here's one pass of a Granny chopped in half and layered on top for one hot minute with Granny:

Obviously this is honeymoon phase but I think Granny compliments the 303 and the Radio Music Module quite nicely (also excited to get it going with the 3U and pedals once I have my power supply situation sorted).

I have had one for a while (Perfect Circuit had a sale where they were basically giving them away) and I am guilty of not using it. I completely agree that it compliments a higher fidelity sampler (you have a 303 I have an older MPC 500 [$200]). I feel like I am an outspoken fan of BASTL stuff in general though.

Posting here so I can flag this thread for when Brands (the MaestroGranny) starts inevitably posting.

i actually very much enjoy being called the maestrogranny. I also realize I hype a few pieces of gear way too much.

Anyway, I totally agree that MG is supposed to be used with other stuff. And using it with a midi sequencer changed it a lot for me. I haven't been able to play different grains with a sequencer, which I really want to, only the samples at different speeds. If someone figures this out I'd love to know how you did.

I want a second one. First I need a lil bastl dude mixer to actually be able to spec talents in granny dual wielding, but it's gonna happen

You might find the answer in the MIDI section here:

I've looked there but I haven't been able to figure it out really. It's easier with a big midi keyboard I guess. I also suppose it's easier if you are good at understanding midi in general

This is exactly the kind of thing I was imagining when I impulse bought a Volca Sample. Now I know what I'm looking for.

Ok, so I know I'm still new around these parts...

...but...

DoS being so gleeful has turned my world upside-down.

It's like seeing J Mascis smile...

What a day to be alive.

Firstly, my ears haven't been replaced by goblins, they were replaced by troglodytes.
Secondly you can play the grains via midi notes by deselecting the 'tuned' option on whatever sample you are currently playing.
Thirdly, the granny is fucking ace! Currently enjoying syncing the grain size to midi clock from the beatstep, which in turn is slaved to analog clock from my double knot which is constantly speeding up/slowing down. So the grains get longer/shorter faster/slower in time with it. :yay:

Maybe it's performance art. Andrew 'D.o.S.' Clay.

I bought one earlier this year. I got distracted trying to learn how to play guitar and now the euro thing. I was looking at buying a Morphagene the other day. Wait, i have a Microgranny. I should pull it out and mess with it again :)
I really need to get my corner studio set up, so I can have all my shit out and ready to go.

This is definitely the first piece of non modular gear I've been really stoked on in a couple of years.I have particular tastes I guess?

Pretty sure someone traveled back in time and made this meme to guide you towards the MG
