Kind of a simplified version of Fabfilter Saturn actually. Looking for a pedal that will only overdrive/distort between certain frequencies but will leave the rest of the signal intact/unharmed/unviolated etc.

Preferably something small. Anyone know of such a thing?

Something with a built-in parametric EQ?

Yeah, sorta. I've looked at some of the various multi-band distortions like Iron Ether QF2 and Source Audio but none of them have mix knobs per band, only overall. But I don't want to distort the whole signal, just between about 2k-5k.

Might be easiest just to set your levels so your favorite dirt is just barely clean, then put a graphic EQ in front.

Did I dream that someone was coming up with a pedal that would add a send/return per adjustable band?

The QF2 would be perfect if I could adjust the bands and each band had a mix knob.

I've tried that but it doesn't quite have the sound I'm looking for. Though you are probably right, it's probably about as close as it will get.

get a crossover to split your signal into different bands?

And then I have eqs with an fx loop. Add a mix knob and that could work.

Multiband stuff is really hard to do in analog without phase issues. Might be better to high pass and low pass a dirt and blend that in

I've heard this and always wondered why that is. If the time of the waveforms being independently processed aren't offset from one another, wouldn't their phase relationship be the same regardless of how you change their amplitude? Or is there something about analog multiband splitting that has its own "latency" thing?

Don't know about a single pedal that already exists... you could code something in a couple of pedal friendly formats but it does require DIY work. You could also probably make it relatively easily if you can do analog electronics circuit design, since what you want is splitter - two identical signals. One goes to a really sharp bpf on the frequency range you want, the other to an equally sharp notch filter in the same range. Then the bpf signal gets distorted and the two are recombined. Could be done with a splitter and a couple of graphic eqs but obviously you're not looking for something that cumbersome...
