I'd guess if you don't like Converge, the new single won't really change your mind. It's a bit different, but it's still very Converge.

You might want to give a listen to the Wear Your Wounds LP, which is Jacob Bannon and Kurt Ballou doing more progressive and less raging sort of hardcore.

I Can Tell You About Pain is a rock solid Converge song. Eve sounds like a Norma Jean song.

Not really apparently... It's not as boring as All We Love[...] was but it is starting to feel a bit tired. I'm really into a lot of their stuff (When Forever Comes Crashing is one of the heaviest albums of all time) but everything started to get stale around You Fail Me and it doesn't seem to be showing any signs of change. I guess it would be hard to be in your 40's trying to rewrite the cool songs you did in your 20's though.

I love Converge but Jane Joe was their perfection IMO. The rest hasn't been nearly as good.

i'm surprised actually how many people here don't like converge/have an honest opinion, lol. if deathwish wasn't forcing wear your wounds down everyone's throats via the e-mail newsletter for months i probably would have checked it out. oh and the limited edition pedlol associated with the wyw record was super lame. like when loma did their limited edition hm-2.

J Bannon is a hack. Converge is def a band I enjoy live far more than recorded.

I really wish kurt ballou would do a solo album. this shit is better than anything converge has put out in the past 10 years.

I like Converge quite a bit. Wouldn't consider myself a massive fan but own four of their records and listen to them every now and then. Don't really get the hype about the new song and video though. Pretty "meh" to me. Their last record (AWLWLB) is really what got me into them and I went backwards from there, but I just kind of have the feeling they're (when it comes to my very subjective taste, obviously) past their peak. But maybe that's just me getting old and cranky.

i think everyone thinks they're past their peak. that's why i asked about the new songs. sometimes bands get weird and cool once they've passed their apex, guess converge will always be beating the same dead horse. but kurt ballou is a badass and a great sound engineer. j bannon is definitely a hack. on his name alone he was able to resell a reissue dan armstrong bass for it's original retail price. and fuck that "they're rare and discontinued" nonsense. they're plastic toys of instruments in comparison to a real gibson, fender, or a well made boutique guitar.

They probably are past their peak, but only because When Forever Comes Crashing > Jane Doe > You Fail Me is an incredible progression of recordings and impossible to top. I'm a big fan of All The Love, and it's significantly better than the two albums that came before it. Very much a return to form after two records I thought were a bit meh.

Single is good though. Looking forward to hearing it in the context of a new LP.

How did it compare to You Fail me and All The Love for you?

I didn't mind it, but in comparison to what came before and after it, I thought it was a bit lacklustre (though personally I really like All The Love). But it's definitely not a bad album by any means, and everything Converge has done is still better than 95% of all hardcore anyway.
