Gurus Echosex T7E (Binson in a pedal)

So a few years ago Gurus came out with the Echosex 2 which was their Binson Echorec in a pedal. This is a great sounding echo with many similarities to the sound of a Binson for a fraction of the price and in a pedal form.... but it was missing a lot of what makes an Echorec and Echorec.
Now they're releasing the T7E model which is the same size enclosure of their Sinusoid and Double Decker. They redesigned everything from the ground up including the power section and preamp section so the sound is better and even more accurate to the Echorec than the Echosex was. They added the same selectors available on a Binson for Echo (slapback), Repeat, and Swell (reverb-ish). Most importantly they created four heads like the Binson has as well as a selector switch to allow 12 different head variations for various patterned repeats which is definitely one of my favorite parts of the Binson.
I've seen a picture but he doesn't want me to share it just yet... it looks really slick and fits into their lineup well.
FEATURES:
Input Control
Length Of Swell
Volume
Bass / Treble
Selector:
-Echo
-Repeat
-Swell
Switch (12 different combinations between the playback heads!!)
Level Indicator (Magic Eye)
Head Display LEDs
Age Of Damage (tridimensional modulation, to a pitch shifting effect, mimics the wearing out of the unit)
Bypass Switch (standard bypass or spillover)
REC (Killdry) Out - a balanced / unbalanced 100% wet output
Motor Adjust - emulating a slow motor mod that was often done to old Binsons to extend the delay time to increase overall delay time to 600ms keeping all 4 heads in sync allowing all the possibilities of a single head at this length such as coupled, dotted eighths, etc

The T7E has 4 PT2399s. He says they improved the way to use it making it so there's zero noise even at 600ms and that it sounds much better than the Echosex 2 which already sounded great IMO.

It's just when someone says "Binson in a pedal" and don't state that they're actually just filtering PTs, I get antsy. I love PTs, don't get me wrong. Curious to hear it. I still think Boonar is the best PT Binson replica, but I'd love to have my mind changed.

I don't know how you'd feel antsy when you walk around with no pants on all day according to your last picture post
I get what you mean.. but yeah, it's emulating it. I love me some PTs too and he's claiming that the magic lies elsewhere in their configuration but that they do play an important part in it. I haven't tried the Boonar but always heard good things. He told me about the detail and meticulous research that went into this and I have a good feeling it'll surpass any other Binson emulating pedal out there but we'll see soon enough!

The Boonar is actually DSP. After buying the Keeley Echoes (prob FV-1), though, it has become my favorite Binson-inspired emulator. I'm not selling my Boonar, but I am turning to it less frequently.

First demo! With that tone knob turned up a bit that's the closest to getting that metallic resonance on the repeats that i've heard in a pedal. Looking forward to getting mine!

I like the Boonar a lot. Why do Echorec pedals have to have such bad names, though? Echosex is the worst.

Yes. IIRC Catalinbread purchased the Trademark for Echorec and T-REX owns the Trademark for Binson.

Much of the time companies fail to register a name in international markets, or it expires abroad more quickly (allowing someone else to register it). When companies fold, there's no great rush to renew these rights either. The Echorec name had likely been available for purchase for many years when Catalinbread acquired the rights in the U.S.
It's my understanding that T-Rex owns the rights to 'Binson Echorec' in Europe only. If T-Rex wants to market and sell their unit in the U.S., they may need to reach some kind of understanding with Catalinbread.
On Thursday, March 26, 2015, an european community trademark registration was filed for Binson Echorec by T-rex Engineering ApS Hjulmagervej 17E, Vejle DK 7100. The OHIM has given the trademark application number of 013883236. The current status of this trademark filing is Registered. The Binson Echorec trademark is filed in the category of Musical Instrument Products , Computer & Software Products & Electrical & Scientific Products.
*OHIM stands for Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (EU).
