Anyone ever get an itch to buy a pedal even though you don't even know what the hell you would want to buy?

Whats that mean

What do I do?

I do this a lot. For me I think it's because I've used shopping and thinking about gear as a way of avoiding real problems? Ergo, the worse I'm feeling, or the worse my situation gets, the more I focus on random gear....

It's fun thinking about pedals, it's not fun thinking about work.

Me right now. I'm moving soon and I know I shouldn't buy a pedal but I've been browsing reverb all day.

Totally. I spend far too much time browsing for nothing in particular, hoping for something to jump out at me.

I'm working on this. I buy stuff to make myself feel better, and thus end up with shit I don't need. On top of ending up with too much stuff, I also feel like a dumbass. Wack.

Yeah. I need *less* stuff, but I have like 70 saved searches on ebay and can't help but find shit to buy just because it's underpriced or weird or "rare" or whatever.

I mostly GAS with the end goal of having a setup/studio that satisfies my needs. There'll always be another pedal or synth or bass out there, but my end goal is relatively minimal.
I do sometimes get that "what BOSS/EHX shit can I get for these 50$ I have burning in my pocket" tho

I just wanted to buy a Meris pedal this week. No particular reason. Just buy it.
But i made up my mind and did not buy another reverb or bit crusher.
I bought another HIFI Amp instead.

Guilty of this. About half the time it ends up being shit I don't like in the end, but there's almost always flip potential.

Gear money has always literally burned a hole in my pocket when available. Being between jobs has quelled spending a significant amount, though, extra time to shuffle through drawers full of pedals has resulted in boredom with certain gear, choosing to sell it, and then (uber-conservatively) spending the proceeds on more. Mid-grade modeling gear was a prior solution to this conundrum, but there are now plenty of pedal-friendly options with effects loops available. I guess I would second the suggestion to focus more on songwriting and add music theory and technique as other focal points.

This happens to me when I'm not really doing anything that is not playing in a band.
I should get a band.
