Hey, I just discovered these new Dano guitars. I know all the reasons not to support this company such as their unethical reproduction of boutique builders' circuits and their president donating large sums of money to anti gay marriage causes, but opinions on the company aside, I was just wondering if anyone here had checked out these guitars yet, and what you thought of them. They look pretty rad, and in the sub $400 price range, should one come up used on ebay, I would totally consider getting one. Just wondered if they had the tonez to back up their looks. Anyone?

If it helps my early 90's Dano U2 is fun. The hollow body-ness of dano's make for crazy feedback, but with gated fuzz its a dream.

me personally. i would not hold it against you if you got a Dano guitar. esp. if it were to due to financial reasons or if your gear consumption decisions were heavily based on value & not ethics. but at the same time i feel as if i am obligated to not buy Dano products at this time & feel compelled to offer some sort of solidarity from a political standpoint, even if i do not agree w/ the underlying tactics.

so yeah. i am not buying Dano products, but you won't find me brow-beating you on the INTERNET via a messageboard if you do.

I played a '67 DANO for about 5 years. It was my main guitar in a "garage" kind of band I had. The neck finally crapped out on me a couple of years ago.

So, I have played the original of this guitar for a very long time.

I went to GC and checked out this reissue -- it is EXACTLY like the original. That is good and bad. You're going to get a great treble-ey sound, but don't expect to get anything in the way of midrange or bass.

In that band, I actually traded off between this an a '79 Gibson Firebrand because of the treble problem.

If you don't mind a nice, chime-ey hard treble tone you'll love it. It isn't exactly versatile, but its ok.

Yes, it is cheaply made -- but so were the originals!

Never was a fan of the Dano guitars or effects line, both before AND after prop 8.

But hey, if you like something don't let someone else say no. Try it and then see if you want to buy it!

Never cared for the originals or the reissues.
Now if they came out with a Coral sitar reissue, I might get a little excited.
But I’d like to have a Reel Echo and a Spring King Reverb unit to play around with.

Played a reissue? I didn't notice it to be a super trebly sound. I played one out of curiousity... its a really cool guitar. I'm gonna be scouring for one used, and not hype.

But seriously, I understand the "you vote with your dollar" thing, and even though I may not agree with Dano dudes political views I'm not gonna boycott them on account of that. There are shitty CEO's over basically every decently large company.

If I can save money on a guitar, I can spend more supporting small time effects builder who I know have positive intentions!

I mean, it's a lipstick pickup - you're not going to get a ton of bass out of that thing. The pickups on DANO guitars have been basically the same for 45 years or so.

You are going to get that "thin" sound no matter what. Compared to something like a telecaster, I guess its similar...but you aren't going to get the range of tones you can get with the selector switch on a fender. It's pretty much a one-sound kind of guitar.

It's ok to buy danelectro guitars as long as, as PP said, you write something like "I <3 Fags" or something on it and send them pictures. I really want a U2 baritone.

I just want the bridge.
I got to fool around with one at my local shop. It was really light, felt good, and the "whammy bar" was neat. I asked the shop keep if it would be hard to fit the bridge system onto an older Dano, and he said yes. I was distraught. He did say he was getting some 12 string Danos in soon

Anyways, Dano's are freaking awesome. They are by no means the best guitars, and sometimes you have to fight them. They have crazy design choices, aluminum nut? a solid piece of rosewood for a bridge? What, why? When I play I fight hum, feedback, a neck that gets sticky when I sweat, and a jack that's starting to short out, and I love every minute of it. When I play my friends strat it's like holding a toy poodle, when you play a Dano it's like fighting a lion.

And the swagger a Dano gives you, the swagger...

see that's the problem. i think that's lazy. people want to have it both wayz. i just recently saw this story. i think you are going to see more of that in the future. that needs to be the focus. nothing like a Dano pedal or guitar is ever going to stop that.

i have been to meaning actually write Danelectro a letter. i should put that on my to-do list.
