Seriously, the RAT clones are much better, and usually don't have as much harsh treble (unless that's what you're into). You could always use more fuzz, so I would say a Robot Factory White Russian (amazing pedal, by the way). You can't go wrong with an Empress Super Delay, and I would buy every reverb pedal ever, if I were you. If you want a spring reverb sound, there's lots of options (Spring Chicken, Holy Grail, Holier Grail, Holiest Grail, Demeter RV-1, etc.), but for others there's stuff like a Line 6 Verbzilla, the Cathedral, or any number of others.

I have a RAT and I like it alot.I was thinking of doing a RATsputin mod from Vodka mods on it.

well you never know what will come out next year. i had pretty much cosigned myself to trying to buying the Digitech Hardwire Reverb but then held off when i heard rumourz of the Cathedral. I got my Hazarai pedal before the Timebender came out, & that could have heavily affected my decision had it been out when i was looking for a delay.

i think Reverb-wise it really depends on what you need. i use my Tapco mixer for spring reverb & a Kaoss Pad for more ambient stuff but I really need something less bulky that doess reverse. I still may get a used rack reverb in the future but for right now i need a reverb pedal. but if I only wanted Spring I'd just go for a Holy Grail myself.

there are definitely boutique alternatives to what you want also. if you can afford them & if it fits what you do then i say go for it: just do a lot a research, compare and contrast, & try to figure out if the boutique alternative is really "the best sounding."

I had a Turbo RAT and it only got trebly when the filter was WAY back. Otherwise it was very bassy and dirty.

I just made an Original Rat clone for a member of the forum, I stuck an switch to go between LED clipping and the Standard Diodes and the LEDs really sounded great to me, much more output volume and gain and much dirtier so that's a mod i'd suggest.

I think you're on the right track. Sounds like a pretty good setup.

I would suggest trying for a used MAXON or a Malekko over the Ibanez.

depends what you're looking for with delay...the options you laid out cover a wide variety of delay territory. I like my Keeley modded AD-9 a LOT...it's a little pricey but it sounds great for analog delay. It is very short delay with distorted echos, so if that's your bag, I'd check it out. Otherwise, I've heard really good things about the malekkos.

I know other people have suggested this in the past, but running an analog delay and a digital delay together can't be beat IMO. I've got an Akai Headrush that I LOVE, but I know others around here would be quick to suggest the EHX or the Line 6.

Since you said you'll be saving for a little while, I would definitely suggest going that route of analog and digital. but :idk:

Yeah I don't really need my delay to do alot of crazy shit, just basic delays and what not.I would just like to be able to have a lot of flexibility and variation.
The digitals+analog idea sounds great.I'll look into some digital stuff. How is is the Boss DD series?
Thanks Scruffie I'll look into that.

I personally find the boss DD series great. Much better than the line 6 echo park, which in my experience brakes quite easily. :idk: Dunno about the DL4, I tend to stay away from those giant line 6 pedals... and most of the small ones too. If you want to go thr route of Boss DDs, i'd recommend the DD-7, as it has reverse, and modulation delay, plus, I love the built in sampler. It has 40 seconds of sampling time, I think.
Or the DD-6 which has shorter sampling times (only 5 seconds :() but has reverse and "warp" mode, which is when you hold down the footswitch the repeats go crazy. I think the keeley modded Ibanez does that too.

And if I can ask something Quickly,
MBT, give me the run down on the ibanez ad-9. I was going to buy one, but bought a DM-2 because some people said the ibanez was too metallic sounding. Does the Keeley mod fix that? and do you have the original or reissue? Thanks.

sure thing. I think my ad-9 must be a reissue since I bought it new from Keeley a couple years ago. My AD-9 is the warmest delay sound I've heard...maybe too warm for some...I wouldn't call it metallic at all in most general use settings. It's definitely not a "clear" delay...the echos get muddy real quick, but that's what I wanted. If you turn the feedback up just to the brink of uncontrollable oscillation it adds a really nice white noise-like texture to everything. When you have the delay time set really really short and put some fuzz or OD into it, it gets somewhat ring-mod like...metallic you might say, but in a good way in that case.

And yes, the Keeley does the boss "warp mode" thing. He puts in a sturdier footswitch, so the old switch functions as a self oscillator...you just hold it down and away you go!

It was my first delay pedal and I still absolutely love it. It doesn't have a lot of features or delay time, but it does what it does very very well...ambient warm analog delay!

I'd suggest the Ruetz mod for the Rat.

You can do that with feedback loop and a photo eye...and it's much easier to control it.I've had the dd6...it's too sterile for my taste, but then again,I sold all my echo/delay pedals.

I gotta tell you...the old dd2/3 had a better sound...seriously...I'm not obsessive about it.I've had them both about nine years ago,and the difference between the old and the new ones is huge.I'm just saying.
