What the hell is the effect... Sample/Hold?

Hey there friends.
What the HELL is the effect that lets you sample a little bit of what you're playing and then it repeats it until you either play something else (as if it had some way to detect that) or you let up on a momentary switch, or press the switch again?
Like I play a chord and it repeats the note over and over like a delay but the effect doesn't fade.
What the hell IS that?
I'm tempted to call it sample and hold but I don't know. I can't put it into words well enough.
And it would be sweet obviously if you could ENLONGEN or ENSHORTEN the time of the repeats. I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about.
Ok later.

MASF Raptio
Hexe Revolver
S3N Super Flutter
Any delay with hold
The effect you're describing is common in stutter/glitch pedals but not all stutter/glitch pedals do what you're asking.
Sample and Hold is when an electronic circuit captures an incoming voltage and holds it for a period of time before capturing a new voltage and holding that. Its most often used as a control voltage with music gear.

Sample freeze, glitch, stutter.

OK gotcha. I remember looking at the Revolver a few years back. I think.
And then what about something that has the option of doing precise and clean repeats of what you've played, and then also a function to have them distort like an analog delay would? So I'd play the one chord, have it repeat infinitely AT MY BEHEST, and have the option of it repeating exactly as played or so fuck itself up like a tape or analog delay?
Thanks!

I don't think any single pedal does this? Unless you maybe used the sound on sound mode on the El Cap and tweaked the tape age and wow and flutter after it looped for a while?
You could maybe use a digital delay or a looper and then when you wanted it to get fucky, just record the loop on the El Cap set to degrade it? That might not make sense.

Also, someone should make that if it doesn't exist already.

sounds like exactly what you;re describing

Yeah I like the El Cap and had one for a long time, but the "hold" feature, while fun, takes a long time to kinda rev up.
I'm talking about something that grabs the sample immediately and then have varying degrees of tape or analog delay like degradation. But I think you get what I mean anyway.
Or maybe I'm thinking about it wrong. Maybe the El Cap would work, but it would be a bit complicated with the timed stopping, and that thing's looper isn't all that intuitive in the first place.
I suppose there are ways I could make it work, but nothing hands free. Seems like there's some kinda delay with like an "analog" or "tape" delay in it that would grab just a quick sample of something and then has a Hold button that doesn't just cause self-oscillation but actually repeats the sample.
Ah well, I guess I'm a fuckin' genius.

Maybe 2 parallel samples, one pristine and one fucked up and some way to blend between them on the fly.

Good lord it doesn't even look like there's a pedal that does the original thing I wanted anyway. Like just a thing with sample length and repeat rate. That's it. The Revolver does all that, but then it's got a whole lot of extra stuff I'm not interested in. Just a footswitch to record the sample and then those two parameters. And I suppose an on/off switch.
I don't know, I feel like I'm searching with all the wrong words. Glitter, shutter, stitch, sandals, shitter, breeze, blutter. Whatever.

Every glitch/stutter pedal on the market is slightly different and unless you can design a new one yourself you pretty much have to adapt to the available options. Get a Revolver. Its the top of the heap and the extra features offer plenty of inspiration.

Doesn't the new EHX Canyon do this?

yeah but I don't think you can warp the time. isn't the stamme[n] pretty much what you're talking about tho, OP??

So, I don't really know how this would actually work irl, but the new DOD Rubberneck does the time warp thing, and it has an fx loop where you could put an EHX Freeze.
