Nevermind. I GAS'd out and bought the orbit deck. With the acrylic platter and basic cartridge. ALso got the little bear T-7 which I can hopefully take apart and repaint a cooler color to match the green turntable.....yeeaahh booooiiii.

EDit:

If an fuzz peeps are using powered monitors in a home stereo style setup, what are you using?

I am looking at the Presonous Eris 4.5 or 5.25. Any better suggestions?

I looked at them for a while but ended up spending a few extra monies for a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon.

Dang. That pro ject is sweet looking. The orbit is going in the living room and was about as much as I could justify spending.

Need some direction on speakers for this set up. Any thoughts on these. Like them mostly because they are pretty plain.

Audioengines A2s should be around that price too, might be worth looking into?

A5s tend to be a pretty common powered monitor recommendation. Maybe the A2s are also pretty neat?

I use the a2s as desktop speakers and they're pretty great, if a little bass heavy. Biggest knock against them is the volume knob being on the back.

I wanted to say this earlier but didn't wanna freak you out with the price ;) . This is what I always recommend to people looking for new turntables, and they almost always balk at the cost. I think the U-Turns are a little cheap feeling, but then again, that's just an opinion. I recommend the Pro-Ject because they're built pretty rock-solidly and the Ortofon Red is a very nice starter audiophile cartridge.

Turntable Lab is awesome if you haven't checked them out. If you're into the idea of spending a little more than the U-Turn but don't quite wanna drop 4 hundo on the Debut (very understandable), I'd consider the Denon or the Pro-Ject Essential II.

And fwiw I like Audioengines! Nice solution if you wanna go receiver-less.

My setup is a Pro-Ject Debut III (predates the carbon), Acryl-it platter, Speed-box II, Ortofon 2M blue into a Marantz 1060, driving a pair of B&W ZMF2001 bookshelves.

Looking to upgrade the speakers soon, and my stylus is starting to get to the point where I've put a generous number of hours on it...

I love the Ortofon Blue! I've got one on my 1200.

Turntable Lab is legit. Got my Debut Carbon from there. I very much want that automatic Denon table they sell with an Ortofon 2M Red.

I ended up getting the Presonous Eris E5's for like $80 a piece. For under $200 shipped the sound great. The Little bear preamp sucks a butt, really needs a volume knob. The orbit is for sure green, feels kind of like a toy. Also, it is internally grounded which I had never seen on a TT.

Either going to look into building a tube pre with more inputs and a volume knob. More likely have some else build it because I have very little free time lately. Something with a bitchin etched case for the living room.
