After 8 weeks of waiting it's finally here. Well, one box is, the other should be here tomorrow. This is a huge purchase for me... not just the amount but getting into an entirely different realm of music making here. I'll be posting a bunch of pictures, clips and videos as I learn this monster so just gonna create this little thread like here for anyone interested in following along. SO. STOKED.

I must be hungry, at first glance I thought it was lots of homemade salami in the box ...

Still waiting for the missing banana cables to arrive so i can hook the triad up properly but using each part separately right now to learn and understand them. I can't even fathom how many different sounds and possibilities are in these 3 boxes especially when they are combined. It's super crazy. Not doing anything really musical yet, just learning it but while i wait for the banana cables here's a few 60 second videos of some of the strangeness going on right now:

""Total destruction" or "How To Kill A Yeti". Learning the Triad piece by piece. This is the Materia which is the sequencer portion but also creates sounds on its own. It can make very unique percussive sounds and deep bass lines... however here I am using it for chaos. Note I'm not utilizing the cv sequencer or clock divides... the only thing I'm doing is patching on the breadboard. This is the deconstruction of a patch so you see what happens every time one of the patch cables is removed what happens to the same sequence. Crazy stuff!!!! Once my banana cables arrive on Monday I'll be able to hook all 3 pieces of the Triad up properly and do some very musical stuff..... until then.... DESTRUcTION!"

and

"First time using the Folktek Triad. A) I have no idea what I'm doing B) I haven't even zero patches going on the Materia. C) I don't even have the Material hooked up properly until I get some banana cables. D) I'm blown away and loving this!"

Still learning it in pieces. Here's a very simple patch made on the Materia with cv control through the Aether. Outputs on the Aether and Mentalis are NOT connected. The materia is creating the percussive sounds and bass while the Aether is pulling in the cv from the sequencer of the Materia and i'm using the cv keyboard on the Aether which the voltage response travels through your body to affect the Materia (again, only output is through the Materia)

Dude!
So the triad is as least as capable as the Mescaline, and sooooo much more sexy due to surfacearea & sturdiness (TOUCH ME!)
that the tenfold price seems like quite the bargain. Albeit a bargain I can't quite afford....

There's a lot of similarities between how the pieces interact and the sounds it creates. The Mescaline is the "smart man's Triad"... the Triad is the "holy shit, what did i just buy... but f it cause it's awesome" version. There's a lot more physical control it seems with the large touch pad surface area controlling the CV. I don't know what patching will be like with the Mescaline but there are what seems like infinite possibilities with the Triad. Also, once i have the Breakout boxes hooked up, i'll be able to avoid the breadbox patching and use standard banana jack patching which will be very nice.... and yeah.... it's badass looking... it's like buying a piece of art but it's also a highly functional instrument that creates sounds unlike anything i've heard.

There is like NO fucking way I could ever afford one of these unless something dramatically changed in my life soon. LOL! It's cool as fuck to see you using it though! I dig your music too dude.

You ought to come out to one of the ILF meet ups!

This!
Is what makes both of them so hard to resist...
The sheer physicality of the Triad would make it much much harder, if the price would not offset it to actually be easier to resist than the Mescaline.

Do you know of anything else that brings the same selfcontained exploratory grooveboxness to the table?
(even if it probably looks more like a calculator than alien-steampunk on aphrodisiacs.....)

I SHOULDN'T have afforded it.... I could have gotten a full eurorack system... at least a very solid core... for that price. I just couldn't resist. I really like unique things especially unique textures and sounds in music. Glad you dig the little bit of music i put out so far too! I can't wait to share what i really have intended for this thing which is to incorporate it into more standard music but bringing something really unique to the table with the blend of the two.................................... but of course i'm going to do 30 minute ambient drone songs too. Once i wrap my head around it, i also can't wait to run it through various other effects whether it's on my pedalboard or the eurorack i'm building. So many possibilities. Even taking small percussive loops and chopping them up in a sampler and spitting it back out in different ways... so many things. all the things! :yay: But yeah.... a big part of it was just to support someone like Arius for building something like this and because of how it looks. As prevalent as video is these days, mixing the visual and auditory is where it's at and seeing someone play unique instruments in a unique way always grabs my attention so i wanted to do that too.

Where are the ILF meet ups usually held?

There's a few people doing stuff like this but not many. I also really want a piece from Dewanatron but this is $4,000 too

and a couple others from them

Dude! I got to try a Dewanatron and talk to the dude who makes them at NAMM a few years back. That thing is fucking insane and Iove it! I'd buy one in a heartbeat! That's something I'll save for.

He told me he originally made that for Trent Reznor, then decided to sell them. So that's pretty fucking awesome you know?

This stuff is all so cool, but it's so fucking expensive! I wish I was smart enough to build shit like this. :)

That's awesome! Yeah, Trent used that first one all over the score for "The Social Network". I agree and just bought a book about building your own instruments. I know i have the aesthetic sense and capabilities but need to learn the most important part  Hopefully you guys will one day be spending $99.99 on my instruments.... i don't think they'll sell for more than that. :picard:
