Which looper live?

Looks like our other guitarist will be overseas until summer 2018 so I've gotta fill the gap. Was thinking harmoniser and looper. Which looper is easiest to use live dudes? By easiest I just mean starting and stopping shit in time. I won't be doing loops on loops on loops, just mimicking our other guitarist. Wont be playing to a midi clock or anything.

Any thoughts?

Ditto. Click > start looping. Click > stop looping and start playback.

NUX time core and tape core. Same thing. Can use 9V battery. Miiight be cheaper? Dunno.

Personally hate the Ditto. It's double click to stop. Ditto x2 can be had for similar price used and has a second switch.

I didn't like it either, actually

I have a X2, but it does some weird shit sometimes. Like deleting the loop by tap+hold doesn't work, but the loop still stops playing like it normally would when you delete it. So, when you tap record again later for a new loop it starts playing the previous loop that was supposed to be deleted. Haven't had it happen live yet, but if it does, I'll tear that sucker off and feed it to the crowd.

Size isn't really a problem as it's not going to fit on my board anyway haha.
Is the digitech thing a thing?

Looper to replace a guitarist live? The DL4, or like me the M9. The DL4 is in the M9. It's in the M9.

But yeah, Play Once. To actually hit cues with a drummer and yourself, you need that function.

This is a few years old but I am the bassist/singer for Sunday Boxing, our then-guitarist had quit, we had a gig, I decided to give it a go playing the songs on guitar with the M9. I had a Boss RC-20XL first, I have a ditto now, and neither of those pedals would have allowed me to actually play the pedal live as if it was an instrument. You can watch me going "yes, yes..no, no, yes" as I get it right preparing for a solo. Also, I was drunk. Very drunk.

Why am I bad at embedding youtube?

I'd say Ditto as well for such simple needs. Boomerang or Ditto X4 if you want some extra fun.

Honestly the Boomerang is the only one I've successfully used live. Need them features. DL4 would work except for the dumb 0:28 loop length limit.

Thanks Seance. And I see the Boomerang has Play Once, so yes this is a valid option. Boomerang looks so cool.

I think the Akai Headrush E2 is the best looper around for live performance. The fact that the record button resets recording rather than starting overdubbing is a huge help when you're just trying to get a single good loop in a live situation. Most modern loopers go for a setup which makes it easy to overdub, but hard to reset or stop your loop. The Headrush makes it very easy to start over quickly, and to clear your overdubs quickly too. There's also no weird lag that I can tell, unlike what I've heard about some of the EHX Loopers.

The only competition imho (aside from the Boomerang) is the Strymon Timeline, since it's play once feature is really useful for syncing a short loop with a band. The only drawback is that you need an extra set of footswitches to unlock undo and other functions. It only costs about $10 to clone their $100 multiswitch, so I'm very happy.

DL4 is an old player as well, and great for syncing with a drummer ass mentioned above, but short loop times and less forgiving than the others.

Oh yes. Play once is the shit. I use the timeline alongside the boomerang for just this, the boomerang being midi synced most of the time
