This is a counterpart to the "Muff With Its Own Personality" thread.

I've been buying and selling a lot of Muffs (Deluxe Muff, Hoof, etc) and I think the reason I sell them is because I don't like Muffs that much. I just don't like the way that Muffs respond to my playing. They feel too muffled or something. Then I'll buy another one because I like the way it sounds when someone else is playing it. Then I'll sell it because I don't like the feel of it.

What are some non-Muff circuits that can serve bunch of really fuzzy distortion into a clean amp the way a Muff can. I have had reasonably good luck with various Rats and a Fulltone Soul-Bender (and I have an EQD Tone Reaper on the way), but what are some good non-Muff pedals for the thick power-fuzz?

If you dislike muffs try a musket/blunderbuss. End all big muffs for me

Buzzaround is also a good suggestion. I'd get a modern variant though if I got another one.

What you need to like a muff is anything with a midrange control and then a boost into it. Blunderbuss does both of those things, but a boost/od before accomplishes the same thing

A Roland Bee Baa variant like the Maxon Fire, Earthbound Audio Pale Mare, or Barge Concepts BB-1 may be worth trying. The Fuzzhugger V2 Algal Bloom can also enter muffy territory with the clipping switch in its lowest position. If the Buzzaround and Dizzy Tone are being considered, the latter of the two has far more bass and sounds a bit more muffled.

You can dial out the octave effect on most fy6 clones to get a huge sustaining fuzz which, in scooped mode, feels rather muffy.

I had a Musket some years ago. It was a good fuzz... but wasn't for me (something in the top end that I dislike like most muff I tried).
Never tried a Blunderbuss.

Someone recommended me the Wren and Cuff White ELK. It's a muff... but not the regular type of muff. Demo on YouTube sound great.

I always found the AB-Synth/Sonic Shroom to be sort of muff-ish? Muffesque?

Is the FH Doom Bloom tight enough for power chords?

Keeley Stahlhammer might fit the bill. It's kind of Rat-ish/Marshallyish distortion that you can scoop if needed. Doesn't have too much low end though.

Also, I know the Fuzz War got a mention in the other thread but I think it fits in here, too. Especially the early 2-knob version, which makes my open-back 15watt traynor sound like a tight muffy fuzz into a cranked stack.
