My Telecaster (what would you do ?)

Hey! This my tele. As most of you know I'm in a love/hate relation with it.

I think I should give her another chance. Maybe change the bridge pickup and the bridge.
I find the bridge pickup way too trebely and arsh.

For the pickup, I have a Lollar Regal (wide range) at the neck and a Lollar Special T at the bridge.
The caps are Orange Drop .022 at the neck and .047 at the bridge and the pots are 250k.

Maybe I should try to replace the bridge pickup by a Fralin Blues Special?
As for the bridge... a Mastery tele bridge or a Glendale... what you think?

What kind of knobs would be cool on this one? Where to get cool knobs?

What else?

P-90 that drops right in to your bridge position?

Your recordings on the youtube channel sound really good to my ears. Seems from this, and your other post, that you're trying to force playing Fenders when you would probably be happier with an SG.

Chank, I almost thought you would suggest a purple pickguard.

My demos are all recorded in the middle position... I never use the bridge pickup alone.

I tried some SG... but the neck is really not for me.

Creamery makes a bridge P90ish pickup I have coming in, so I can give you a review/demo when it does. Talk with someone at a custom pickup place, they might be able to guide you better towards what you want.

Between the mastery Tele bridge and the Glendale, the Glendale wins hands down. But the Glendale is more trebly and vintage sounding. Callaham does my favorite Tele bridge, much more modern, more sustain.

Why not try something like pot swap? 250k to 500k? roll the tone? a little easier/cheaper to change and see if it makes a difference?

adjust your amp?

my dual rectifier i have treble turned all the way down and dial treble back in via presence.

some free/cheap solutions to test.

500k will add more treble. (maybe I'm wrong)
Normally you put 500k on Gibson type to add clarity.

My amp EQ is not that effective.

HB-sized P90 in the neck.

Tele-sized HB in the bridge (my favorite is the SD Pearly Gates)

Ooof!

The wide range is not HB size. A HB wont fit in there.

I have often found that strapping a cap across a bright pickup did the trick, nice and cheap :-)
Perhaps start with 1nf and go up or down from there

I had a Harmonic Design Super 90 in the bridge of one of my teles for a long time. Did this great TeleJunior thing, definitely way fatter and fuller than a normal Tele bridge.

Isnt trebly and harsh exactly what a tele bridge is supposed to do?
I had a special t in the bridge of my telemaster and found that you really had to adjust the amp eq to work with the pickup, especially with fenders.

Im gonna echo Wittgenstein and say it seems like you're trying to force a tele do what it wasnt designed to do. There are plenty of single coil sized hb's available, that might be the best place to start.

A bit of this is speculation, since im not sure of your love/hate aside from liking the neck and hating the bridge pickup.

edit: So i peaked in the other thread, and the description of what you wanted sounded exactly like a jazzmaster to me in the middle position. I will say, Ive only heard jazzmasters through twins and vt22s, so the big iron might really be whats helping them get that full and round sound that I think theyre known for.

I have a BLK TRI meteorite in the bridge of my telemaster. It sounds good. I love how that guitar looks otherwise so I wouldn't change anything on it
