Another thread in search of delay recommendations

I like my boss re20. I like that it sounds classic and tasteful but can also oscillate like crazy. However, I'm getting fed up with the size and the fact that the preamp is always on.

What's out there that's got a good analog sound, can oscillate/get weird, and has good bypass? I'd like to try a true analog delay like an mxr CC but then, I'd also like to try an echorec. Aqua Puss? I know ILF has a deep love of quality crazy delays, chuck some opinions at me.

80Tape In Limbo III.

Accept no substitutions. Better than any other delay.

Boss DD-500 can get as weird as your mind and your creativity are.

It also has boring delays that sound good!

Bit too boutique/expensive. I'm not looking for "the best", just something that does the job.

Catalinbread Echorec is good for vintage textures, rhythmic multi-head repeats, and it is nice for swells/oscillations. (I have 2 for synths and tabletop loops. Really ethereal and lush, but can also work with dirt.)

The Supa Puss is somewhat experimental in chase mode (big jumps, odd intervals). It's analog with TT and dotted repeats, if you need them. (I have one, but kind of want a 2nd for even weirder soundscapes.)

As far as crazy delays in a small footprint, there's also the OBNE Mondegreen (dig mine), among others. The small Alter Ego is around $99 on sale weekends and does a variety of vintage emulations. (I have the larger X4, but the algorithms are the same in both.) I'm sure I have some more around here, but I'm running out now, so those 4 will have to be my initial recommendations.

$200 usually translates to £200 once it's made it's way here. Something I can pick up secondhand/cheap in the uk is ideal, which is why I thought of the carbon copy. It'd be nice if the waza delays would flood the used market soon.

Belle Epoch or Echorec might suit you better. I'd look into finding a used limbo III though.

Maybe check out a Malekko 616dark? I loved mine for a long time, just flipped it because I was convinced I needed tap tempo and I'm really picky about weird things. If my tone memory is accurate, I normally left it at a pretty similar setting to how my In Limbo iii lives. Doesn't have the crazy Arp and Env modes, but it does a pretty bad-ass, tweakable, analog delay and it oscillates nicely.

Most deep blue delay clones (if it's price) come in small footprints and can self oscillate. I love my carbon copy, as well.

I never liked the puss delays, but I know a bunch of guitarist friends that dig them.

+1 on the 616. They're real neat and cheap as shit.

How about the Boss DM-2w? if you want a smaller, simpler, RE-20 without the preamp... DM-2w might be able to give you the sounds you want aside from getting superweird. The oscillations are fun though.

I had a 616 dark that was pretty cool, but i couldn't vibe with how it changed my clean sound.

Since talking to Eivind on ILFcast, I've been looking more at maxon Ad-9/80 and such. Maybe that could be something? If you can't find any maxons for the right price, I'm sure you can find other similar analog thingies
