EHX Mig 50?

Has anyone used one of the recent Mig reissues? How much headroom do they have? Would they be a good platform for using lots of delay and reverb and shit? I was under the impression they were pretty clean, but all the demos I've seen have sounded pretty dirty.

I have an original mig 50, and it is great as a pedal platform. It has way more headroom with single coils or vintage style humbuckers than like... high output buckers. I think it's similar to a 50w bassman in headroom. Probably a little grittier, but still takes pedals well.

I assume the reissue is very similar.... but i don't really know.

Agreed with iDYs on the original, but I haven't had a chance to try a reissue.

I do use low output guitars, so that's something. I'm running the "crunch channel" on my DSL100 with the gain cranked and it only breaks up a little bit.

Nmv doesn't mean much when the amp has low headroom.

Hmm I'm really thinking about pulling the trigger. The price is spot on for a US made amp from this century.

You sure they're made in the US though? When they were just about to be realeased into the wild, I remember reading only the first 50 would be made in NY, the other ones would be made in the far east for the most part. Not that that automaticly means they're shit, just sayin' :idk:

There's one of those reissues for $500 in my local CL, the only reason I could get it is to have my 2x12 sovtek cab match with an amp, I would need to sell my Traynor YBA-1 tho...

Both are 5F6A based, no?

I think they are made in China.

Yes this is correct, afaik. First 50 made in NY, then made abroad after that .

I had been planning on buying one for a month or so. Haven't tried one, but seems like it's pretty perfect for what I need. That being said, in the last week or so I gave up on being in a band through this season of my life (young kids, full time job, full time student... no time for anything else at all) so I won't be buying one.

I've been reading everywhere that they kept making the production models in the US just like the first run :idk:

I've said this before and I'll say it again.

Everything is in some way made in China. Think about. Where did the plastic come for all the components? The aluminum? The wood even? Bet most, if not all that shit came from China. haha.

Seriously though. The lack of master volume pisses me off so bad. That was my biggest gripe with the original. WTF EHX!!!

Yeah, I'm definitely not denying that all the parts are made in China and assembled here, but for some reason that still makes it cool in my book?

I like to get all my dirt from pedals so I don't need no stinking master volume

The reason for the master volume is because this amp is so goddamn loud it's insane. For a 50 watt, I've never heard anything as loud as it. It was impossible to tame and play comfortably for me. I can't play at concert volumes at home. LOL! I'd have the volume almost all the way off on one channel and it'd still be too loud! Seriously the most powerful amp I've ever heard.

Store I teach at ordered one for a guy who wound up returning it because it was too loud and drowned out the other half of his rig, an OR100. I didn't get to play it in depth before it sold again, but it was, in fact, fucking loud.
