drone boxes / cv control / theremin / advice

So I have this idea for a tabletop drone / noise setup that will respond to motion and light. I'm looking at getting Handmade Electronic Instruments maximal drone and drone jar this week. Is there something with CV out that would react to light or motion that I could use with the maximal drone? The new moog theremin has CV out but it's a little pricy for me at this point and I don't really need all its features.

Also what are some other pedals / things that I should check out for this? I'm thinking about a zvex fuzz probe and maybe a theremini. Mostly interested in motion controlled stuff so I can circle an athame over it to make noise. :animal:

That's exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks!

If it has an exp in jack, you can usually wire up an ldr to a jack and use that.

Doepfer has a reasonably cheap euro rack theremin antenna with CV outs. Just get a small case to go with it (you could add another CV processor to it too).

Another cheap option would be to build an astable oscillator and use ldr off the blinking LEDs or use ldrs in place of the pots to adjust the rate (one on each half). Boost it up to CV levels for maximum effectiveness.

The maximal drone takes CV from 0-5 volts. Kommander goes from 0-8. Will things explode or will that be ok?

There are attenuators on the back you can use to set the range to 0-5V :)

The Kommander doesn't use LDRs, by the way, so it's not dependent on lighting. Which is a good thing. Also, two channels... Can be super nice just for the gate outs if you want to make something like a Korg Volca follow a specific rhythm...

Yeah I was using mine to control the sequencer on the Monotribe the other day. Pretty cool stuff.

Kommander will definitely be my next purchase. Maximal drone and drone jar get here tomorrow and I have the weekend off. Gonna barricade myself in a dark room and get weird.
Vidret, do you still have a max drone?
I was looking at old posts for info on them before I ordered and saw you mention plugging it into a danelectro battery powered amp. I have one of those somewhere so I'm gonna have to try that.

I think I'm going to get a kommander too... all this talk about it has me thinking of the possibilities.
