It's that time of year again! Satan is going to be bringing his fat ass down the chimney so we rob his ass blind! He'll be expecting cookies and shit, but he isn't expecting bondage and butt play!!! muahahahaha...wait...nm.
So it occurred to me after Tom George of Cog Effects mentioned it, but Die Hard is a Christmas movie!!! I never realized it, and I am so happy he brought this up. The wife and I watched it last night, ok she fell asleep and I watched it, and I was thrilled to see it all occurred during Christmas Eve.
Merry Christmas Hans Gruber!!!!!!
Anyway, what are some other unorthodox movies to watch during the holidays?? It's got my wheels turning and I'd love to turn this week into an action packed week or gorefest. Whatever.
Share, share!!

Eyes Wide Shut
Batman Returns
The Thin Man
Lethal Weapon
Catch Me If You Can
Trading Places
Silent Night, Deadly Night
I have not seen Sint (Saint, 2011), but it looks pretty intense. Apparently the director scores his own films, too.

Die Hard is THE Christmas movie.
I feel like we have this discussion every year, jwar. How are you missing it?

Not only concering WHAT movies, but HOW.
Now, the Die Hard trilogy is imo better watched in a different order than chronological (just like star wars is better watching it: 4, 5, 1,2,3,6,7).
So. Let's say you have all of the movies mentioned above, plus others in this list:
Eyes Wide Shut
Batman Returns
The Thin Man
Lethal Weapon (series, 4 is a maybe)
Catch Me If You Can
Trading Places
Silent Night, Deadly Night
Die Hard Trilogy (only 3 die hard movies made, 4th isn't called die hard it's called last boy scout)
Gremlins (2nd is optional)
Love Actually
Krampus
Bad Santa
Groundhog day (there's snow in it, shut up)
Jingle all the way
So. Let's say the focus is Die Hard, so what you want is to hit the best Die Hard movie on Christmas Eve. That means you're gonna need some buildup, but it's dumb to watch the best one first, then the 2nd and 3rd installment later AFTER christmas eve.
So what do you do?
You watch them in order. 2-3-1
The 2nd movie gets your christmas spirit going, it's a good movie and (if you've seen the movies before) builds up the legend that is John McClane.
Before and after the 2nd movie you'll want to watch movies such as bad santa, lethal weapon etcetera to keep you going in between the days of the 1st of december and the 24th. Eyes wide shut and so on. Catch me if you can. stuff like that.
The 3rd Die hard movie gives you a short break from all the winter-y-ness in the middle of it all, and this is where you stack all your other less-winter-y movies as well, around this one. It keeps the legend of McClane building, it's still a great movie and you fill the rest up with the likes of the other lethal weapons movies.
Around the 22nd-24th of december these are your priorities:
Gremlins
Love Actually
Die Hard
One of them before christmas, Die Hard 1 and the other ON Christmas Eve.
So the night before christmas you watch a GREAT christmas movie, and on the day of christmas eve you watch ANOTHER ONE, and then - finally.
All the build-up of previous movies, everyone talking about the nakatomi plaza incident, "hey you're the nakatomi plaza guy? I saw you on TV". Everything he used to be, in all his strength and stubbornness, his anger and will for survival. Everything he was ever known for, and the one night that defines the rest of his life, and the rest of action movie history.
It's Christmas Eve. An airplane lands as the sun sets to a tangerine sky floating over Los Angeles. Make fists with your toes huh?
Yippie-ki-yay, motherfucker.

Love Actually??? This shit ain't about my wife damn it!!!!
Fuck that shit! LOL!!
So since I own almost every movie listed (LOL), it's on!!!
I watched Die Hard last night, so the plan is, Die Hard 2 tonight, Gremlins tomorrow, Bad Santa the next day, Die Hard 3 (the sign scene in this one alone is the reason to watch. So fucked up), X-Mas Eve re-watch Die Hard and also watch Lethal Weapon 2 (my fav), on X-Mas I'm watching Christmas Vacation because of the LOLZ. I have to. Maybe Christmas night I'll hit up Silent Night, Deadly Night, that shit is hilariously stupid.

We always watch John Carpenter's The Thing on christmas eve, I'm not sure there's really a good reason beyond the movie being good?
