searching my Mothership

Hey folks :hello:

i have some questions regarding my future-setup, im planning to optimize my workplace
first my current setup:

Elektron Analog Four
Elektron Analog Rytm
Elektron Monomachine
Guitar
Mic
Effects and Loopers
(in case i have the time - isn't really often - and its going to be a longer session / multiple occasions, i swing out various small machines like Korg Volcas, Microkorg and self-built noise makers)

-> into a Mackie 1202 VLZ4

im totally happy with that except i want to make really complex, warm and watery Pads and maybe some crazy alien like blurpzlazorshwirls.....
i used my Analog Four for that purpose -> but i want pads AND! the glitchy bleepbloops from the 4 Tracks of the A4

i know i could use my Pigtronix Infinity looper for layering more tracks from the A4, but i couldn't come up with a workflow that floats my boat.
so i started looking into all the big ones like DSI Prophets, Evolver, Tetra, Virus TI, Moogs, Junos, Nord and friends.
i mostly fell in love with the DSI Prophet 08 for its Sequencing (since im used to the electron sequence madness)
its important to me that it can be used standalone without external sequencing, it doesn't have to have built in effects i got plenty of those wich i want to use.
so long story short: do you know any notable Polysynths like the Prophet 08 wich i should look into?

and a technical question: can i connect a Expander like the Miditech Pianobox with a Key-Synthesizer and play the Synth sounds while playing the Piano sounds from the Box? or same with connecting analog four with the DSI Prophet and doing the same ;-D

i hope thats not too blurry and widely streched to ask :?: thanks in advance for your help

in deep love, yours sincerely <3 Onkelkeks

(1) If you've fallen in love with the PE '08, I'm not sure there's a similar equivalent at its price range. You'd have to spend another grand to get something like a keyless Modal. I was recently looking at the 08, but it seemed like virtually every review I read mentioned that the mapping features of the 08 were quite challenging. ---Of course if you're already using Elektron stuff, which is known for being complex and not necessarily intuitive, then the 08 might be a breeze for you.

I'm not positive, but I think the 08 may have been discontinued. Sweetwater just stopped carrying it and other dealers have discounted it by $300 or more. So this is a good time to purchase one, if that's ultimately what you decide on.

(2) From what I'm reading there shouldn't be a problem here to incorporate this into your setup.

https://www.thomann.de/gb/miditech_pianobox_2.htm

The Miditech Pianobox has MIDI in/out, along with its own internal sound engine. Therefore you could use MIDI out on the Pianobox to trigger a synth simultaneously, but you may run into sync issues if you chain them in series, rather than running shared in/outs simultaneously.

If you're wanting to trigger 2-4 synths at a time, the cheapest way to do this is with a MIDI Solutions Thru Box. They're $49 and that will allow you to play up to 5 synths at once (the original + 4 triggered sources routed through their own external chains). Of course you may need a mixer or coupler to bring your separate signal paths back together before running everything into your recording device.

(3) If you're going to combine drum machines and synths, you may want to want look into some kind of master clock device down the road. The Koma RH-301 has a lot of options for syncing devices that don't always cooperate with one another. Good luck.

Also, if you ever decide you're willing to rely on an external sequencer, you should look into the Reface DX. Based on your description, the DX may handle everything you want in terms of aural atmosphere. DX + Prophet = huuuuge scapes and evolving pads

Hey thank you very much for the replys,

im glad that playing multiple modules works, i forgot about the midi splitters :-D (even though i got a GLAB Midi 3x Splitter wich maybe will work too?)

im going to get a used Prophet 08 if i find one for cheap, i didn't find any comparable synth with a (more ore less easy to use) sequencer and 4 LFOs

the modor NF-1 is nice but sadly, like the Virus TI no internal sequencer
