I've owned a lot of reverb pedals with the Space being the most pricey and option filled. It's a great pedal but I felt the more subtle stuff wasn't that great. It did the epic verbs in droves, but that's not all that I wanted.

I went back to the RV-5 eventually cause it's cheap and readily available. I'm ready to look again and lately I've considered the Blue Sky. I've never played one and it's one of the few I haven't owned.

I don't care about the shimmer - I tend to hate the effect. I want a nice spring and hall of plate. Tone control is important. Presets aren't important.

Super Spring Theory has a great spring reverb (it's the best I've come across to date) and the "room setting" is capable of a hall effect.

Here comes UC praising the BitQuest reverb mode again. Beautiful hall reverb! I've been through my share of reverbs and now I just keep a BitQuest at the end of both my boards.

Funny, I have a Space en route. I'm obsessed with reverb and have been chasing the dragon, haven't been able to find one that does exactly what I want.

Firstly, I have an RM1N—it's great and is going nowhere. But it does its own thing... it can do subtle, but it's best at fucked, and I don't need that all the time. I also have a Dispatch Master that I adore for huge verbs—it captures a hugeness that no other has been able to nail for me.

Ones that I've owned and flipped:

Flint: hall and plate settings are both rad. I found the spring disappointing, which is why I sold it and bought...

Super Spring Theory: sounds pretty damn great but something about the spring just wasn't convincing for me. It's apparently based on a late 60s Twin's tank. I have a '68 Twin, and while the SST can get close, something about it sounded too splatty and didn't have the richness of the real thing. That's to be expected, I know, but something just didn't work. It's a rad pedal, though—the hall setting is a bonus bit of awesome.

Empress Reverb: I had a bad experience with this one. Above all else, I will say that it sounds KILLER. That said, I was way bummed out about two things. First, the knobs are bizarrely wiggly. This alarmed me a little, so I emailed Empress and they said they'd received complaints about this and that they were working on finding new pots for future peds. I guess I'd have to send the pedal back to Canada in the future if I ever wanted these replaced on mine. It was unsettling to imagine the possibility that they could get wigglier over time... and oddly when I wiggled the knobs I could hear a sort of squishy noise. Not in the signal, but physically coming from the pot. It didn't feel good. Secondly, the presets on mine didn't work due to some unknown internal failure. After prompting me to open the pedal up to check the seating of the ribbon connector inside of it (it seemed fine), they gave an option for me to send it back for repair. I didn't want to immediately send a brand new pedal that I'd spent over 400 bucks on back to Canada and wait to have it fixed, so I just sent it back to CME and swapped it for a Space.

I don't mean to rag on Empress, but I was disappointed in this experience. I hope they work it out, because like I said, the pedal sounds great—mine just had some issues that I couldn't deal with.

So yep, I'm psyched to see how the Space goes—I've really liked the spring sounds I've heard online, plus countless other super cool samples.

Also I haven't owned one, but I was impressed with the spring sound of the Wampler Faux Spring Reverb. Emerging theme: good spring sounds in pedal form are where the dragon-chasing lies for me.

If I were to buy another reverb it would probably be an RV-2. If I were to buy a reverb for spring it would be a real springs type thing, like the above ones. Don't know how the spring is on the TC trinity but it has some pretty good halls

also the Surf Rider sounds pretty great.

I use an RRR which is great and really musical sounding, but I do miss the springy sounds.

Eventide Space is my main verb and has been for years. Great sounds and very capable unit.

I keep the Walrus Audio Desceng in my synth board because I like the character.

The OBNEs and RM-1n are more about being ducky than dense watery reverbs.

I would consider the MXR M300 over the Blue Sky. Other than that, get an Alesis Wedge.

I read this post and knew exactly what you meant by ducky. Apparently I write fucky so much that my phone auto corrected ducky to fucky just a moment ago. Damn iPhones.

On a reverb note:

I have always found that the Blackout Effectors Cadavernous Reverb has been capable of a wide variety of sounds. Not sure it provides precisely what you need buy it could be worth exploring.

Haha pretty sure you're into the idea of it being a fucked up, gnarly reverb all the time, and fair enough. It does sound goddamn amazing, which is why I'll never part with it.

I did type that when I was super tired though, so I'll clarify: it can do subtler sounds, but I think there are several verbs out there that cover that territory better than the RM1N. On the other hand, I'm not really interested in using it for subtlety, and I can't think of any verb out there that does crazy like the RM1N.

So yeah, in short—I use it for the crazy stuff. For more trad, I look elsewhere.

Also forgot to add I also have a BitQuest and a RRR, both of which fucking rule. The BQ's verb sounds pretty similar to the Dispatch. Cavernous.

One more pedal that's surprisingly weird/fun: Keeley Memphis Sun. It's designed to emulate a vintage, 60s James Burton sort of sound, but it can do some bizarre, short, chewy tin-can tones that sound unexpectedly robotic and modern.

Im not much of a reveb guy but I messed around with the space that I just sold for guitar a bit and didn't really care for it, sounded good for synths but I mostly use computer verb for my synths so I sold it. The space was just taking up too much space in the mix on guitar because most of what it did was crazy and strange verbs. Either way I now use a boss RV-2 and it changed my whole out look on verbs, its subtle but can get pretty big but I really like how it makes everything I have sound. I think if I see another one for cheap, Im getting it
