Talk me in/out of buying a Tiny Terror combo...

- I've seen both the combo and head version been used on live shows, by people who can easily afford whatever fucking amp they want. Not sure know what that's worth, but it should at least mean that it's maybe not just the cheap chinese pos practice amp I used to think it is
- It's loaded with a G12H30, which happens to be one of my all time favorite guitar speakers.
- 1x12", 15watt switchable to 7 watt. Literally THE perfect specs for what I need. No boxy sounding 10" cone, 18mm plywood shell, enough power to hang with a drummer (hooked up to a booster pedal and a 4x12 cab that is), not too much power for home use, no silly gadgets or digital effects,...What's not to love?
So what say you? I haven't been able to find a lot (any?) yt clips that don't sound like ass
Would the amp benefit from an upgrade? Being chinese and all...

And what's the consensus on the tiny terror's pedal friendlyness?

I never considered them because I didn't think they could play clean worth anything. But maybe I don't know what I'm talking about?

the problem that i've found with most small wattage tube heads is that they sound best wen cranked.
when cranked they possess two things:
1) volume, a good deal of it
2) breakup
just in my own experience, is all.
this amp could still be for you.

Yeah serious doubts about hanging with a drummer.

While my experience is super limited with this amp, I know that mods exist for it, though I dunno what they do. There's one for sale locally with Mercury Magnetics Holy Terror mod and Jule amps mod. That said, you might be happy simply rolling through tubes.
Also, you might wanna check out the OR15, though it isn't available in a combo as far as I know.
Further, I enjoyed my 20 watt Jet City combo while I had it. Sounded fantastic, but never got really clean..always had a bit of hair.

I've never played with a proper tiny terror, but have extensive experience with a micro terror. I love that little thing. I wish there was a micro terror combo. Micro with a 2x12 cab can keep with almost every situation I've been in. You obviously aren't looking to doom out or whatever, so I think you should be good.

Thanks. I usually like to avoid playing clean anyway
But yeah, I guess clean headroom is the way to go if you're after a loud pedal platform of sorts. I've got my half stack for that though, so the tt would be used stricly at home (my neighbours are cool). I know for a fact (my the drummer's previous band had the same rig) that cranking the shit out of it through an efficient 4x12 gets the job done, at least with the drummer I jam with, in the particular space we use, etc. Again though, I doubt I'd use it anywhere but my living room. But knowing that it *could* be used as a grab'n'go amp if I were to go jam at a buddy's hoius or something would still be a nice bonus.
I fried my shitty attenuator, and I wouldn't mind a more compact solution rather the half stack + fresh attenuator approach again.
I haven't found too many bad reports on reliability or qc control type of issues or anything, so....Guess I should just go try it out than

They like pedals, esp pedals that prefer dirty amp platforms like Tonebender & Fuzzface.
Dirty > clean. No problem there

I actually didn't know that. My main dirt source these days is a clusterfuzz, which is supposedly somewhat based on the tonebender circuit

I own one, I use it at home. I like it. I used it a couple of times in a band context (dirty settings), and it sounds great.
I prefer my vox AC4cc12 for playing guitar at home anyway. I also use it to play bass at home, with a rustybox preamp.

The other thing, too, at least around here, they seem to hold their value. So if you find it isn't for you, you shouldn't lose much or any money flipping it.

Yeah if they turned up really cheap I'd have one already.
If you're not worried about clean headroom they're good.

One of the guitarists in my band used one to record our album. Most tracks she ran a Rat through it to boost the already dirty signal then she used an Acapulco Gold through it...sounded so good. For home/studio setting it had plenty of volume running out of a 2x12

Bought'd
Played it at the seller's place (huge, awefull sounding room), haven't had a chance to plug it since I took it home.
Sounded a bit boxy and compressed, which didn't at all surprise me considering I'm used to playing a Traynor YBA-1 and 4x12 exclusively for the last 6 months or so. What I'm NOT used to though, and like a lot: A ton of dirt at reasonable volumes, and no back aches when carrying the amp from my car to my house, and up the stairs to the first floor
Btw, that one pick just reignited my GAS for an harmonic percolator damnit

That enclosure looks WAY too secksy to settle for a much more board friendly Frederic Effects clone
