i mean. come on. they're still $250 for an 8x8 rackmount version. that's what they were 10 years ago.

i need to have more midi outs at home for CLEANLINESS, was thinking a used Motu or Midisport, but dayum. dunno if i want to spend 2 or 3 hundy just to have cleaner cable runs.

am i looking at the wrong things? everything OLD and cheap i'm finding is either serial port, doesna have drivers for Windows, or reportedly has signal lag.

murp?

Have you looked at getting a powered midi thru box?
I use a midisport 1x1 feeding an mpc500, which goes thru to a Casio TB-1, which in turn feeds:
Midi murf
Ditto x4
Line6 m5
Ehx 8 step
Korg volca keys

And also used to feed a boss slicer, microgranny, x0xb0x, Nord drum 2....no lag issues whatsoever.

Midi sport was about £15, Casio TB-1 was about £25 used on eBay?

hurrrrm. well, i have 2 midi outs now, one on my usb audio interface, one on my usb midi keyboard. and i can roll that way sort of (i only have 2 or 3 things that need midi cables now), but i was thinking about a rack mount multi out usb midi box.

which, i am just shocked. shocked and AMAZED that they havna gotten cheaper over the last decade.

but good idea! thanks!

If you're handy with minimal soldering, the cheapest would be this MidiThru. 1 in, 5 out.

I used an old DMC MX-8 all midi patchbay. Just run in/out of computer interface on a set of in/outs and then route as needed using midi channels. Works great and cost me less than $50

HURM. DMC looks interesting, but i kinda dig the Midiplus 4x4. i was hoping for a rack mount thinger, but could just grab one of those rack trays and velcro it down.

NICE.

ORDERING.

LOVE YOU GUYZ.

Same deal except the DMC has more in/outs (6/8), midi merge, and user routing presets. :thumb:

hurrrrm. it IS super neat. but it seems more than i need? lol. or know how to use?

i'm always afraid of older used things in the Only Have A Bit Of Knowledge gear category. that's why a newer usb device appeals more?

Could be more than you need, but is really dead simple to use. Connect computer to i/o 1, connect other midi device to any other i/o. Push button to select which in goes to which out(s). Beyond that all midi settings are handled in the computer/synth/whatever.

Still, totally get that older stuff like this can be a risk -- it mine breaks I would have almost zero chance of fixing it.

What you want is a VERY niche product; most folks just chain stuff together!

A lot of modern stuff doesn't let you chain anything

That's sad, everything I'm using these days has I/O and some still have Thru!
