no hate, they do neat stuff? just curious why everyone is all about the Euro Rack loots the last few years?

for me, the sounds are awesome, but i would get lost with ever recreating anything i liked i think. i get too distracted playing around. NEED MY SAVE SPOTS AND BANKS AND BANKS OF PATCHES.

touch my curiousity. pet it. FEED IT.

WHY.

I'm not because I'm stupid. Others are because they can do a lot and fun, or so I'm told...

I haven't been able to find any Eurorack stuff that makes me happy. For me, I think it's a pretty simple reason: I'm more into I guess what you'd call the traditional, melodic approach. Less into noise and experimental stuff (I love it, just not what i typically make for myself), too impatient for all of the patching, tuning and tweaking. Plus I tend to like having a synth whose components' design/placement are all arranged under the consideration of one manufacturer... I think a big, aesthetically crazy Eurorack setup just doesn't appeal to my design brain.

For the longest time I tried to get into it. Bought a Pittsburgh Lifeforms SV-1 Black Box but sent it back because I found it too cheap feeling, oddly noisy, difficult to tune/keep in tune. I see so many people do rad stuff with the format, but it felt good to just finally agree that it wasn't for me.

Haha I like that mad scientist / spaghetti look, but what bugs me is having a bunch of components all graphically laid out by different people, some of whom seem to really care about helpful design, and some who seem to give zero fucks.

The only thing that interests me about is playing my guitar through it. Check out thereisonlyfuzz on instagram for clips: https://www.instagram.com/p/BMFAv_mhsWq/

that's a good point about aesthetics. maybe if i had a larger music yarea to work in i would care less, but a bunch of panels that didna feel like they went with each other would freak me out.

lol. DANNO. ETCH PANELS PLZ.

i like the Messy 'Skettin Wires look too, i just kinda..... hate the idea? just for me of course, but i love the idea of click this once, hold this button and spin this selector, boop i selected the tone i spent time making up all fibbly like.

Seems like a perfectly natural progression to make if you've got the money and you've got all the pedals. It opens up a whole other world of effects and sounds. Everything sounds great, but it's complicated and expensive. I had a pretty big Doepfer modular system back in the day (when I had money), but I eventually got pretty bored of it, same as anything else, really.

I have no desire to go full-on Eurorack or 5U. I don't see the point of spending $20,000 - 100,000 and having no presets. It's logistically impractical to me for reasons that exceed the tremendous financial commitment. (space, time, function, quality of sounds, ease of use, lack of recall options)

If I was going to go modular/semi-modular, I'd get a Phenol. The 0-Coast is cool, too, but the Phenol seems more versatile and more dynamic. I know Behndy is not going the iPad route, but for my own tastes and habits, I'd rather have modular and generative apps on an iPad, along with an army of pedals, rather than a large modular system with no ability to recall desired settings.

I feel pretty much like the last two posts. If you have the money and tried all the pedlz!1 fuck guitars, dad!

I have never been and probably won't be in that position, economically or paternally. Closest I got was that year when I had my MS20 Legacy midi controller hooked up to my computer and would just sit and play with patches, make rhythmic sequences and record shit jams to tape. It's hypnotizing and brain-frying, don't wanna imagine the insanity of that times a hundred. Call me dumb, but I need something I can wrangle without going at it all scientifically.
Still, it seems like a load of trippy fun if you have the inclination to put a lot of time into synthesizing, which I do too, but with less connections, options, time and money? yeah.

So if you're into modulars, more power to you, literally, because you'll need it. Why not set up a lil' grow op instead? But I guess the world needs sound design and edgy film scores too. :p

I like low tech stuff because punk rock. I play noise, I don't need expensive equipment to do that. Also, I agree with the bleeps/bloops comments. I also remember when people abandoned a perfectly workable technology (analog synths) for the next big thing. I'm fine using the crude technology I already have, it was good before and it's still good now. I don't need the newest iPhone, etc. I already worry that too much of my involvement in music revolves around buying new shit.

btw modular synths have been around since the 70's or probably 60s, eurorack is just a repackaging. don't take this the wrong way, but here's a protip regarding things and their costing money....assuming you're not an invalid or otherwise overburdened by a sense of entitlement and/or laziness you can do work in exchange for more money that you currently have :joy: and you're free to do with it as you please :omg:

I'm intrigued because I love the blips and bloops and my pedalboard is a terrible instrument with which to bloop.

That said, I know myself well enough to know I will never actually take the jump into it

c'mon. really guy? that is a shitty, shitty attitude to have towards someone not wanting to dump all their money into gear.

i dunno what real estate/cost of living is like where you're at, but i make a decent amount of money and at least 75% of it goes towards existing.

i agree with Shiny New Tech Doesna Equal Good Tech. i'm just getting back into some hardware stuff, and all this shizz i WANT, but i keep trying to pay attention to what i actually need.

and to learn something i have REALLY WELL before adding more loots.

that's why i prefaced with "don't take this the wrong way" hell, i'm happy just to hum. but things tend to cost money, and i thought thread was about WHY into Euro but alot of answers are for WHY NOT to get into Euro and seem to revolve around a complaint of it being expensive. get a job ya hippy ;)
