Should I sign up to be a Reverb Preferred Seller? +/-?

Ahoy—

Just got an email from Reverb offering Preferred Seller badge, just looks like I have to do a couple things like link up my bank account, etc.

How many of y'all have done this? Has it worked well? Any drawbacks?

Super exciting topic, I know, but I very much appreciate your opinions

Just reading through the details, it charges you less processing fees and gives you additional protections. Plus, it gives you a badge that lets people know you're a cool dude. I don't see why not.

I'm 1 sale away from being eligible, I'd probably sign up if I could.

I signed up in late June.

I never heard back from them.

Hope it works out for you.

Huh, I didn't know this was a thing. I signed up and they approved me within 10 minutes. 50+ feedback. :idk:

i did it. The only drawback is that you have to offer direct checkout. So then you get "reverb bucks" that you can spend on stuff through reverb. You can transfer the $ to your bank account, but I prefer to have it in my paypal balance.

I did it. I like it, and I only offer reverb direct checkout anyways, because the fees are lower than paypal.

There is one more perk to being a preferred seller. Some of the Reverb-promoted sales events are only open to preferred sellers. So if you want to put your stuff in the 15% sale, you're going to have to sign up for preferred status first.

I think you're combining two different things. When you sign up for a preferred account, you have to accept direct checkout. This includes Reverb bucks (gift certificate dollars) as a form of payment. You don't necessarily get paid in Reverb bucks, though, unless you specifically request that. You receive money in the form of a direct deposit to your bank (often 1 day after shipping the sold item).

I became a preferred seller in 2013. In 2015, though, they started offering the option for seller accounts that only paid out in Reverb bucks (instantaneous funds available, but they can only be spent where Reverb bucks are accepted as a form of payment). These accounts get a 1% rebate at checkout, but it's really just for people who re-invest 100% of their sales back into more gear.

If you have a preferred account, and someone pays you through PayPal, the money is paid out via bank deposit just like direct checkout, and it's processed for less than what PayPal charges on its own. I don't like not having instant access via my PayPal balance, but I do prefer being able to share less of my sales revenue with PayPal.

*If you want to review payouts, it's under shop policies.

[Where should your earnings go?
(you can change this anytime)

( ) Automatically send to Bank Account
Reverb initiates payouts for shipped orders each business day.

( ) Convert to Reverb Bucks for immediate use]

I think the person who used to oversee the preferred seller program left in June. I would just e-mail support@reverb.com or use the chat feature to find out who took over for Rosie.

Ah, thanks! Yeah, I initially wanted to become a preferred seller to have the option of participating in the periodic sales events. I'll give it another shot.

I already do direct check out as a normal user, it's a nice feature (and essentially as fast as paypal - though I want to say funds don't begin posting to your account until shipping notification has been submitted. I try and ship same day, so it's never been a problem - but it IS a different feature than the paypal path). In the end, I prefer support of both so I'm not weeding out potential customers based on their ease of buying.

Edit: in less than a half hour they green lighted my upgrade. THANKS FOR THE NUDGE, ECHOREC!

I just signed up myself. No drawbacks yet except when doing a presale as a builder you don't receive payment until it ships (the first time only). I read that in the fine print so it wasn't a surprise. I guess it's to keep people honest.

I look forward to using it a bunch because the fees are lower than PayPal and the customer service has been stellar. Reverb is great because whatever your selling pops right up in Google searches.

Resuscitating this to ask if anyone has signed up since the Etsy buyout, or for those who already did it, if it's still working for you. I got the offer last night. Seems like every payment I get is delayed until shipment (which I get but it's a total PITA to wait for the money), so I'm not sure if there would be any major negative changes for me.

I was kind of against it at first because they just made it so that you have to have your bank account linked to your account instead of paypal. I would sell stuff, the buyer would pay and I would have that money in my paypal immediately but now that they got rid of paypal it takes a few days. A friend of mine said that the money wouldn't show up until it was shipped or something like that and I thought that sucked but he is pretty new to reverb and I have been with them for years. Anyways, I asked about becoming a preferred seller and they told me that I had to update my account so that it was like that too. So that's why I didn't do that. Then I sold something last month and the money never showed up in my paypal account and the reverb dude told me that you have to link your bank account to get your money now because it was "safer" than paypal. I think that really sucks because I have a shared bank account with my significant other and my paypal was like my gear account. Now she sees what I spend on gear and I don't like that. I guess since they make you link your bank account now regardless, why not? I never had problems selling on reverb without it so I don't know if it actually matters.
