Has anyone used any of the GFS P90 sized humbuckers? I like the tone of the P90s I have in the guitar I've been using, but I'm curious.... any experiences? How do they sound?

Also, their new kwikplug system looks interesting, unless there's someone here who can tell me why that's not a great idea.....

:hello:

I put Mean 90s in an epi dot, and they were awesome. For the price, they're hard to beat. That said, the BKP Flat 50s I had in a tele make me really want to try their other offerings. But on a budget, Mean 90s are great. I went with them because I read they're closer to a true p90 than the Dream 90 is.

I have mean 90s in a Squier Tele custom. They're great, got them woody stringy p90 mids, and as a bonus they hum cancel in the middle position.

They're really a great deal

I have a surf 90 in the neck that replaced a Gibson 57, and its way better imo. It basically had the same tonality but with more highs and lows and was just clearer and overall better.

They're more of a dearmond then a p90 but basically the same thing, big single coil.

I have a GFS mini humbucker, I had it in a Reverend Double Agent OG replacing the P90. It sounded pretty good, I liked the P90 in that guitar more. Minihumbuckers often sound more like hot single coils than humbuckers.

Used to have a Dream(or Mean, don't remember) in the neck on my Telemaster. Sounded good.
But the Surf 90 pups is worth checking out! I had one in the bridge of my(now stolen!) Hagstrom Viking Baritone.
Sounded awesome! Cured both my twang and rocknroll fever! And the neck pickup now sits in the Telemaster. :)

I had them in my Fender Toronado and really liked them. Eventually swapped 'em out for some Duncan Pegasus/Sentient and shipped them off to somebody on ILF but I don't remember who.

These I think are spec'd pretty close to the Mean 90..alnico magnet(not sure which one, but the Mean 90 uses Alnico V) and similar output, just slightly hotter.

These ones are alnico V, with again slightly hotter wind than the Mean 90.

The Mean 90's are proven, but these are probably worth a shot, too.

I have a mean 90 in the neck of both of my guitars (one a baritone) and they sounds most excellent. I'd say they're pretty dark though, so you might want to fool around with pot values.

well if youre using 90s and downtune expect nothing but dark mid range for your tone.
