It's so mutually exciting / frustrating.
Will people drop that much money on a mono synth?

I have a real crush on Arturia, and I play my Microbrute more than anything else these days.
I'm really intrigued by it, but it's priced at a point where I could only justify it if I was a professional sound designer.

That being said, I think what they are doing is cool.
I like that they are really dedicating themselves to monophonic and going for it.

Anyone gonna snag one?

I would definitely drop that much money on the right monosynth.

I'm relatively new to synths so I'm curious what lens you're coming from.
Whether it's the sound / features of the Matrixbrute, or that you have something else in mind for your ideal mono synth.

I hung out around it at NAMM and I thought it sounded good and had a lot of neat options. The woman that was showing it was doing neat stuff pretty quickly with the matrix thing...but I didn't actually get to hands on try it (their booth was less hands on friendly and they only had one there iirc). Looked well made at Arturia stuff usually out performs my expectations of it.

But, I'm wary of it...I didn't really like the microbrute that much personally. And at 2k, I'd rather just save up an extra 1.5k and get a music easel or a verbos comp system or something. Or save a few hundred and get a telemark K (and even have enough for the ARP reissue).

I do love the matrix programming and if it was tied to a synth I liked better I would go for it haha. Partially I think I am.just not into filters on synths that much anymore (I get kinda annoyed by the self osc whine and wet sounds for whatever reason haha no idea why this changed). For somebody that digs the microbrute I could totally see it being worth it at 2k.

Didn't see a ring mod either...

Looks cool, plus I really like my MicroBrute, but I'd be more inclined to go modular over this, honestly.
$2000 is just such a massive difference from the prices of the other Brutes.

Ok, so, more thoughts: I don't really see the matrix being a positive addition to the workflow (obviously all of this stuff show be labelled in giant, all capital letters "FOR ME"), but that's mostly because I nearly never work with sounds in that fashion (live and contained in it's singular box). I love the idea of having that sort of signal routing available on the face of it, though. That's something more synths should make easier to do.

Not a huge fan of the 'Brute' factor, and I'm not a fan of the envelope sliders on the MicroBrute either. Also don't care for/need the fullside keyboard. Not sure I need anything in the right hand column either -- I assume that's the effects?

But, yeah, considering that I've spent well less than 2 Grand on my 'modular' setup (it has modular but also also sorts of other ins and outs and instruments etc) If I was building a standalone synth on that budget it wouldn't look very much like this one. Needs more tactile controllers over parameters and the like. Would much prefer, say, an Eowave Persephone (for about 1k less) or a Haken Continuum (For about 1k more). Or building a system around the Wiard 311C:

if I was on a 2k mono synth expedition I'd get a used Moog Voyager RME and pair it with a decent MIDI controller. That said I liked the demo and think the matrix is pretty cool and Artiuria has done a good job integrating the matrix into various functions of the synth.

Never really liked the sound of the brutes, bit too plain and without any real character of their own to my ears. Buchla on the other hand, are totally unique and truly forward thinking. Add to this list a make noise shared system, some combo of ciat Lonbarde instruments, EMS synthi vcs3, the new bugbrand semi modular., Korg ps3100, yamaha cs60-80..... Those are the real mind blowing mega synths for me, and would be an exciting purchase at the prices they command.
I like the matrix idea a lot, I had the pleasure of playing a vcs3 at the vintage synth museum in San fran when I was in the states and its a great way of getting from point a to point f very quickly, but I dont like it enough to pay 2k for it.
Why no new synths come with in built spring reverbs these days is beyond me, it's a cheap circuit/addition and they fuckin rule for adding a bit of 'natural' back into the sound.

My gawd you guys are synth maniacs! I thought the brute factor sounds great on my Microbrute.

The only synth anything I've owned is a Micro brute. I can see how a poly synth would lend itself to being played more like a piano. However playing a chord and then mangling it doesn't sound too bad either.

Yeah, I really like the filter and oscillator on the microbrute. The brute factor made it real easy to drive the filter. Something that's still hard to do on most synths. I still need to try doing that with a splitter cable and the minilogue....

All those high-end synths don't really have the same kind of performance flexibility. Presets with that matrix gives you the ability to do the equivalent of changing the way you have your entire modular patched by pressing a button. It also looks like a great way to edit/make sequences.

If I had that kind of money, I'd be all over this! I agree about the keyboard. I'd rather have pressure plates or something. Or at least a desktop or rackmount version. I don't want to deal with a full size keyboard on a synthesizer. It's a synthesizer, not a piano.
