So, what are ya'll opinion on the new slice of Townsend? Personally it's my favorite record of his since Deconstruction. :snax:

I still haven't given it a proper listen but the bits and pieces I've heard are in some ways a return to older forms.
Which I fucking love.

Gonna get around to it later today!

Teria was peak solo Devin.

Deconstruction was contrived but a reversal of a slow slide. Nothing drastic, but a slide nonetheless.

I'm always interested in new devy, but albums get successively less repeat listens.
Will give this one try.

Out of interest, if devy is at low to mid level, what is elite-ass prog metal?
I could do with some good tips.

Oh, that was just a reference to his merch this tour cycle, as that what they have written on them.

Specifically a joke about how they had a "making of documentary" just like metallica despite being "lower mid tier prog metal" in terms of commercial success.

I like the album. Not as good as Z2 Dark Matters but better than the albums between that and Addicted.

That's super good!

But seriously. Elite ass prog metal tips are graciously accepted. I've been on a prog death, proggy tech death sorta binge and I need some more regular ass metal in my life. Latest Gojira is boring me shitless, as much as it pains me to say it.

Edit:
Apparently appending "ass" to stuff is a thing.

Sorry for the rubbishy language use.

Most prog metal nowadays is taking after Periphery, sadly. :( Granted, Nolly mixed/produced the newest Devin album and it came out fantastic, so it's not all that bad.

There's a new neurosis album in coming, so that'll be awesome.

There are some bands taking after ISIS/The Ocean Collective though, sort of like a new breed of post-metal that's proggier.

if it's not as good as Z2 then I won't even bother because Z2 was like... bottom residue garbage in the scope of Dev's discgoraphy

:idk: :idk: :idk:

Naw, transcendence was so much better than Z2, I hated Z2. Hell, even the band hates Z2.

Dude needs some vocal lessons, but this is my favorite song of theirs by far.

ALSO KARNIVOOL. They use a lot of effects in a really cool context.

Y'all just don't appreciate the genius of the AYATOLLAH OF ROCK N ROLLAH as Captain Spectacular.
