Do you have an effect that escapes you?

I love the way tremolo sounds in songs. I've had probably 10 tremolo pedals over the years. I can never get one to sound cool. I buy a tremolo pedal, experiment with it for a while and then wind up selling it. Simple effect. Can never get it to work for me.
Is there a type of effect that you really like but its use escapes you?

I've had a delay or two runaway before....
Phasers are this for me. I love the way they sound, but I've never been able to make them work very well for me.

Wah for me too. Can't make that blues face no matter what.

For me it's phaser... like the sound, but feel wrong when I try one.

I'm so surprised no one has said ring mod.
It's probably filters for me. I can deal with them on tabletops, but on a board it has never been successful.

There's some effects I'm not terribly interested in, (tremolo, reverb, volume pedals, chorus, probably more), so I'd list those, except I don't think I've ever even really tried out any tremolo/reverb/volume/chorus pedals.

One effect I haven't messed around with yet, but want to, is delay (gasp, I know). Wah too.
I like fuzz, distortion, phaser, flangers, pitch shifters, and glitchy stuff.

Yeah, I can see that. It seems - or from my limited experience with them - that not all ring mods are the same in the behavior and different ones can be more useful than others. There are different types of trems with different options, but they seem to all function about the same, given some differences.
I tried a Moog Ring mod and thought it was really useful and you can get some interesting tones out of it, other than the more usual extreme ring mod stuff. I also tried a few others that only really did the extreme stuff.
What filter pedals have you had? What made them not useful on your board? The function of the effect or using your foot made it difficult to get the sweep you wanted? I'm presuming though that you used an exp pedal to control the filter. If you mean auto-filters: I never liked those.

Oh yeah, I love ring mods too, but haven't bought a ring mod pedal yet. For now, I can fulfill my ring mod desires with my Tentacle and Crystal Dagger, which I love.

I refuse to use more than one expression pedal and I refuse to buy expensive multi-purpose expression pedals. That's why I keep my filters within arms reach. Ring mods too, actually, though I do use the dirty ring mod on the bitquest with an expression pedal on a track.

I want to love Rats.
Everyone else makes them sound like hot shit.
I get one and it sounds weak and lame.
Like "me-e-e-eeh".
Flange too. I want to like it. Always end up sounding douchey.
I want to get into filters though. I love phase and they seem like they can do all that and more.
Had a digitech envelope filter that was cool for putting ridiculous envelope sweeps into things. My band mates at the time hated the fuck out of it.
I'd love an EQD orbiter or a spatial delivery though.
But MuRF is at the top of my gas list.

For me the trick with tremolo is being with other people. It always sounds great when there are drums and stuff going on. Always sounds lame and predictable after like 2 minutes by itself. In that sense, I'd say it's tremolo for me too. Only pedal I've cycled through a bunch of and ended up not satisfied with any of them.

The trick for RATs is they, too sound best at stage volume, within a band. Or with a rippin' amp in a good studio's biggest room

I think I've had the most trouble with reverb pedals, mostly spring but also with others. Maybe it's just because I harshly judge them against my Twin's tank.
Weird, cavernous reverbs like the RM1N and the Dispatch master: no problem there. It's more the subtle ones. On certain days I'll plug one in and love it, then a week later I can't get a good sound out of it. I'd be less inclined to blame it on the pedal and more on user issues.

This me with Tube Screamers. Other people can make them sound good but I can't stand the fucking things.
Rats I'm good with. I sound awesome with a Rat.
