New three knob delays.


Following Bart/effectsdatabase makes me often wonder. Do we really need the next incarnation of that? How do you guys feel?

I like when a builder introduce new things. What already exists, already exists.
Same for vintage fuzz... we don't need 100 different incarnation of the same thing.
I like modern vintaged inspired stuff with a new twist.

I honestly can't remember the last time I played a 3 knob delay. LOL! Fuck that shit! hahahaha

Flangers...no offense meant to anyone releasing one or to anyone who loves them, but good God. How many ways can you flange? It seems like every time I turn around there's a new flanger hitting the market. They all sound the fucking same too. Hit me something innovative in regards to flange and I may be interested, otherwise, I've yet to find anything that sounds better than my BF-2.

I also get tired of noisemaker pedals. Not the brand. lol. I mean pedals that have no apparent use other than to make a bunch of noise in your signal or be their own instrument. I do like crazy pedals, but I like to play bass too. So to me if I wanted something like that, I'd buy a modular unit. That's just me. I felt like for awhile builders were trying to one up each other on who can come out with the craziest design. Then I got really bored, really fast.

I mean, I'll still buy everything. I am human...hahaha

jwar, have you tried the SubDecay Starlight v2 flanger?
I agreed with your statement, but this one is innovative.

It was way too metallic for me. When I got the one I had it the trimmers had been messed with and I couldn't ever seem to get it to a good point where it wasn't too high with regen, which is a setting I tend to run rather lightly. So I couldn't deal with it. That metallic sound was just way too over the top for my ears. It actually hurt me to play it. lol. Like the high pitched tones set me off. Maybe that's the issue??

I have gassed for a Starlight DLX since they came and went...I really would like to try that one.

I had the DLX and hated it... way too metallic and steryl. V2 is warm to my ear (so I guess yours was not adjust properly).

About the original post... if a 3 knobs delay could be innovative, I'm ok with 3 knobs (but it have to be different from what already exists).

Not sure I necessarily agree with univalve (three knob delays have their place), but I'm also open to trying new delay dealies too.

I tend to prefer delays that aren't "overly" complicated.

I'd have to agree with univalve. If it's a new chip or a new way of doing things - yeah, maybe. But another three knob pt-delay? Nope.

I'm kind of the same way. It depends on the delay and what each knob does. Like the the Ibanez DE-7 is perfect with 3 knobs, the MXR Carbon Copy seemed to be IMO as well. Other than that...I honestly don't think I've bothered with any other 3 knobbers.

I'd be happy with a delay as long as it has the following controls

time, mix, feedback, volume, repeats

That's all I need ever.

Moar delays should have tone controls though. Moar.

Agreed. No offense meant to Bart because his site is an amazing resource, but the majority of adds since it got opened to user submissions are just new ways to do ugly.

I don't follow the site like you guys because, well, it's overwhelming lol. I do dig what he does though.

Just from a brief view this is what I found

Cast Casper
Mr. Black Digidelay
Odak DL-1 (looks atrocious LOL!)

So that's 3 out of the 40 "new" pedals on the site. All three knob delays.

Mr. Black's actually sounds really fucking good. The Cast sounds pretty standard and Odak, who fucking knows? Can't find anything.

I don't like 3 knob shit either, but fuck I want that Mr. Black pedal now. Damn it. LOL!!
