Dark Interpreter Signal Processing

Anyone else using the Dark Interpreter on loops? I ran a guitar loop through the Tenebraum and got this pretty little thing, but since the Dark Interpreter is impossible to duplicate results on, I have no idea how to do it.

I know UG uses one, but is there anyone else using this thing to process signals? :animal:

That sounded great :joy: I know of at least one other ILFer who has one, can't think of their handle. Your post got me to break mine out and show this new technique I've been trying out with it. I'm using patch cables instead of fingers on the pads to randomly "play" it. Turned out pretty cool i i think. I ran Crimson And Clover through it and this happened up until my camera's battery died.

here is what i played through it for reference to how it was slowing down, glitching etc.

Good choice of source material there, UG. :)*

Very nice, UG! Any idea what "patches" you were using? I'm trying to at least locate the mode for granular sound splicing, so i can lock it in as opposed to just sound generation.

mr. howse, when questioned, was very nice but ultimately could be summed up with "best of luck" :excellent:

no idea  I just randomly touched/rubbed those two patch cables onto it until it started to respond, then I started recording. its always a crapshoot for me, the manual says a lot of stuff and even has names for the pads but I never really sat down and tried to make sense of it.

couple things I have learned, when I find some touch sequence that I like the response of, and then go off in some other direction i can usually get back to that response over and over until/unless it starts to making its own noises and then i have to just power off and start over. starting over and doing that same sequence tends to get me back to similar territory. another thing is getting my fingertips wet before touching the pads can lead to some really interesting results, i can touch out, or smear a pattern on different pads and as the water evaporates its kinda like still having my fingers still on the pads with less and less pressure. i really like experimenting with that.

i enjoy the random unknown of it all, but touching a patch cable between pads seems to get a response more often and reliably than using my fingertips....so if i wanted to really get a better idea of what might do what, i would sit down for awhile with a couple patch cables and play connect the pads. oh yeah, touching those pads on the lower deck also does stuff some of the time, and even those little pads on the left and right of the power switch can be used to make patches from...as well as from those little soldered ends sticking up on the top deck, i put one end of a cable there and the other to pads.

YES!!! I have had fantastic results with the power supply pads and lower pads. Absolutely no idea what they do, although they seem to be the same layout as my basic interpreter.

Didn't know the pads were pressure sensitive either!

I need to experiment with this thing more and take thorough notes. I notice it seems to be a sequencer, a synth, a delay, a filter and a grainy slicer/dicer, but it takes a lot of delicate maneuvering to edit the parameters without switching the function.

I have one and have absolutely no idea what I'm doing when I use it. I love what it does, and have no regrets for getting one, but it's a very wild creature that I'm fairly certain cannot be tamed.

I use the Dark Interpreter too, as part of a no-input mixer setup (which is pretty much all I do to make sounds these days).
Martin advised me to make sure to I turn the knobs at the same time as pressing a pad. I haven't seen many people doing this in some videos I've seen.
I love its random approach and have no intention of trying to learn it or tame it, if such a thing is even possible!
