Loopers and Mixers

I have a sampler/drum machine that I want to be on the same loop as my guitar. I have a Ditto X2 and I'm in the middle of replacing the switches but, I may have fried the board from desoldering because I'm reckless.

Would this operation be possible with a DL4 or M9 in conjunction with a mixing board of some sort?
I'm still grasping the concept of stereos in and outs and certain pedals mixing down to mono or whatever
Help me loopers enthusiasts. Because nothing beats the functionality of those 2 for what I do.

If you want to mix or combine multiple signals into a singular path, this is one of the cheapest and most dummy-free solutions.

Do you need a mixer, though, or do you just need a looper with stereo inputs?

I need stereo inputs, so I can send the signal of the sample to one sound source and the guitar to another(that's coming from the same looper.) I'm aware the ditto can do this but the footswitches suck and I just love the DL4.
Or maybe I need a looper with midi sync.

What exactly are you trying to do? If you are trying to mix a drum machine and guitar to one output, if you can't plug both in to an X2 and sum both to mono by plugging into one output, you could certainly combine them after exiting the X2 with an active combiner.

However, the last post about midi sync suggest you want to do something entirely different. The X4 has midi sync as does the Infinity. But midi sync and combining a guitar and drum machine into mono are two different problems, no?

I want to be able to have my guitar only coming out of my guitar amp and my samples/drum machine only coming out of the PA while on the same loop pedal. And if this can be done using a DL4 or M9 using the proper accessories.

You need a looper that's discrete stereo. What goes in L channel comes out L channel, etc.

And run the loops/drum machine in mono to make that happen.

Or you need two loopers, sync'd together in some way.

sounds like the x2/x4 does what you want. pretty sure the boss loopers keep it true stereo as well. the DL4 SHOULD but it might do the sum and split thing. been too long since I had one

I have done similar with the X4, the Digitech Express XT, Boss RC-50 and RC-300. They are all True Stereo and maintain the integrity of the stereo signal while allowing one to use the same loop for the stereo image. I'd imagine the X2, RC-30, Infinity and the other stereo Digitechs do the same. I think the Boomerang is also supposed to be True Stereo.

Also, with the X4, RC-50, RC-300, Infinity and Boomerang, you could midi sync the drum machine to the looper so they wouldn't go out of sync. Not sure why you'd need to loop the drum machine at that point but that, of course, is your creative discretion.

And. On the X4, RC-50, RC-300, Infinity and (and I am assuming) the Boomerang, you could record each to separate loops and still maintain the stereo image though the Infinity requires the first loop to always be first.

You cannot do this with the DL4, since it internally sums to the stereo input to mono in the looper mode.

You need a looper pedal with true/discrete stereo (as mentioned by rfurtkamp).

In addition to the options mentioned by manymanyhaha, you should also be able to do this with the EHX 720 or EHX 22500.

Confuseled by drum machine looping methodology. You're overdubbing a new drum pattern over a pattern that's already in the buffer? Real-time triggering that doesn't set a static pattern? I'm trying to suss out why syncing your looper to the midi clock of the drum machine's sequencer won't cut it, and I'm probably just insufficiently creative in my looping and drum machining to get there.

So say, using the pads to trigger a sample to create a free form beat
And then adding guitar on top of it.

Like rfurtkamp said, it's seeming like I really just need two loopers to sync up with each other.

Yep, independent loopers with sync sounds right for that. Digitech has an entry-level JamMan pedal with a jack to sync to another, no MIDI involved. Don't know how well that sync system works, though.

If you are creating that beat first manually and wanting to record and loop it and then add guitar over it, any of the true stereo loopers will work, no need to sync two separate loopers. Your X2 probably would have worked but certainly the X4, RC-50, RC-300, Infinity, Digitech Express XT and probably the Boomerang, RC-30 and the other Digitech true stereo loopers. They all have different features beyond just the basics of record/loop drum pads with the left side and record/loop guitar with the right.
