so, I've been using a daisy chain for the last 5 or so years, but recently been been experiencing noise issues. so, I decided its probably time to get a real power supply, which I know nothing about. Looking for an isolated power supply, with at least 6 9v outputs. the ones I've been looking at are;

Voodoo Labs PP2
1 Spot Pro CS7
Walrus Audio Aetos

leaning towards the 1 spot, because I'm cheap. any others I should look at? recommendations?

I've got a Decibel Eleven Hot Stone, works pretty well, and has some similar options as those listed above. I think they go a little cheaper.

I've had an Aetos for a while and I've always been happy with it. Also, check out Cioks.

If you have any pedals that require lots of current the Voodoo Lab 4x4 is a better option. The PPII+ is somewhat outdated in that respect. It has a tough time keeping up if you have a modern fancy delay or reverb box.

I just sold my isolated power supply a few months ago and went back to a onespot. It was working fine and nearly noiseless with a four-pedal setup when I introduced a pedal that didn't play well with the others. I'm thinking about just throwing down $30 for a second OneSpot rather than investing in another brick. Is this a completely stupid idea?

BTW, the power supply I had was a BBE Supa Charger and it did the job just fine for REALLY cheap.

walrus audio has a blemished Aetos for only 140, so I think I might go with that.

It's a good sturdy brick. Much more robust than my ISO 5.

If you have a decent store nearby that actually has some different ones in stock:

Tack any high gain pedal. And maybe a Freeze or something else with shit filtering. And maybe something with an LFO to be super serious.
Or fuck it and just tack a massively high gain pedal.

Plug in the pedal. Turn the volume off on your instrument. Turn everything to 11. See how noisy it is. Compare to next power supply.
Any noise that is getting generated by power line filtering from the power supply will get magnified to shit by the fuzz pedal. In this case, more quiet is more better.
1 spots are really quiet.

I went Cioks long ago and I've always been happy. The only time I've ever had noise issues is when I didn't have enough outputs and had to daisy two digital pedals on one output. Other than that, it's been totally smooth.

Lost: It all really depends on what you've got and what you're planning for the future. Do you see yourself growing your collection, adding more pedals to the board? Especially, adding deep, multi-featured pedals? Then you should probably invest in a brick, and one that provides lots of current (some provide more mA than others). Fancy delays, digital pedals, etc. take a lot of current and will introduce noise when chained.

On the other hand, if you've just got a few analog single pedals (and don't see yourself expanding much), then daisy-chaining them on One-Spots is probably fine.

What you need to do is look at what you've got, what kind of pedals they are (analog vs digital), determine the mA (current draw, not voltage draw) for each (this should help: http://stinkfoot.se/power-list). Then think about your pedal buying habits and future.
