The SM does octavia type fuzz when you crank the intensity, but it's very noisy like. Luckily, you can just pull the volume knob back a bit and it goes quiet again. Kind of cool for switching between the two different sounds.
The GZ would be best for a "Proper" Octavia Fuzz.

As far as devi ever pedals go, I would go with GZ.
I love the destructo noctavia, but it really doesn't work with chords. I do it on occasion, but only for freak out parts. The thing is totally insane!
GZ is much more mellow -- you can get a more intense tone if you turn it up, but you'll do better at lower settings.
You also might try checking out the dunlop hendrix octave fuzz (now discontinued) -- (in my opinion) one of the best octave fuzzes you can get, and it is cheap as hell.

He's referring to the dunlop Octavia reissue/replica. It's part of the hendrix replica series. I second that. It is fucking awesome. Lower gain than most would expect, but boy does it sound awesome with chords.

MXR(?) issued Jimi Hendrix signature pedals a while ago.

There is the Voodoo labs Proctavia, more expensive, but very nice, and the Foxx tone machine.
I think there is a tone machine in the B/S/T threads.

Yeah -- the black box is the one I was referring to, NOT the white "octavia" reissue.
Though it looks like an MXR pedal it is technically made by Dunlop. They discontinued it when they stopped making MXR sized pedals under the dunlop name and so they could bring out the cheese wedge.
Frankly, to me both sound pretty similar. But the black box Hendrix is less than half the price.
Cheese Block = $170 =
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod ... sku=151066Hendrix Octave Fuzz goes for somewhere between $50-70 or so.
It's your call -- all of the above are excellent pedals. The only problem you might run into is that there may be no way for you to check out GZ or the black Hendrix pedal. You can probably go to guitar center and play the cheese wedge, though.

Kinda want that Octave fuzz now. Does it work with chords, and does it clean up?

Which one? If it's the Jimi Hendrix MXR one, I'll ask my guitar teacher about it. He uses it a lot in his shows... but plays rockabilly.
