Who wants to talk about other practical uses of specialized adhesives formulated only in recent history.

Examples: Spirit Gum as used for attachment of prostheses for theatrical or other purposes, Temporary gum type adhesives as used popularly on Post-It (TM) and other sticky notes, etc.

I've used quite a bit of spirit gum in my day, and I must say that I do not enjoy it. Takes forever to get on and hurts like hell when you have to take it off. Plus the residue...

Spirit gum is horrible, stuff that's supposed to stick falls off, but every thing else is stuck together.

I do like the newest generation of the cyanoacrylates (super glue, Hot stuff) a little more working time and different viscosities from water like to thick goo.

what's that rubbery stuff they use to attactch CD's onto the cover of magazines? that stuff is brilliant, I can remember ripping my cover of 'select' magazine trying to get the cassette off the front....damn sellotape.

I know the stuff you mean it's sorta like old glue that's lost it's stick a bit and gone rubbery but still works I dunno if you get the brand UHU in america, but it's like an slightly dried out version of that.

Yea I think that's what i'd compare it closely too anyway, atleast that's what seems to be round the screw top of my tube of UHU, I suppose it's kinda like the post it note glue of glues.

I was watching a live stream on the web from New York ... 12 - 1.30 (uk time) I couldn't seem to sleep after that!

Lol ahh, I ended up staying up till 4 in the morning So I can't really talk.

Hot hide glue is hard to use, hard to apply, hard to get to the right temperature and keep it there, but gives you supper tight joints with very little glue in the actual joint which is great for acoustic guitar braces, tops and crack repairs, on the other hand it is not fun to use for bridges. It is ancient tech but still holds it's own.
