SMM w/ Hazarai...Any alternatives?

I know, I'm all over the place with my pedal recommendation threads. Still haven't really figured what delay(s) to get. I decided ages ago to pull the trigger on a smmh, but backed down at the last second and got a timebender instead. Couldn't get rid of it fast enough. Awesome pitch shifter, but a digital delay pedal with that many possibilies should be able to get the volume of the repeats AT LEAST to the same level as the dry signal. That's basically what ruined the tb for me. Plus, the different tape/analog modes sounded almost identical to me, though I guess louder repeats might've helped with that too.

Anyway, I'm still looking into my options for an alog-ish delay as well, but for the second delay pedal on my board I figured it's time to FINALLY try the smmh.

It's been out for a quite a while though, I don't suppose by now anything else popped up that does a similar job, only maybe even better? :idk:

In other words, what delay pedlol did you ditch your smmh for, and why? :snax:

How about a Nemesis?

Yeah, I looked into that one. Would've definitely been a great contender, but at more than twice the price of the smmh, and virtually zero availability on the used market, it's not really fair competition, right? :idk:

What are you looking to get out of the SMMH

Yeah I have a SMMH and can't seem to knock it off my board, but I also have a Particle, Timebender, and M9. I keep the SMMH mostly for looping and the multi-tap. It just depends what you want out of your delay.

DD6 or 7 plus a tap tempo?

This is actually what I swapped out my SMMH with.

cons with the smmh:

- doesn't do oscillation swirlies when twisting time knob
- doesn't do oscillation that well at all (that cool analogish shit)
- reverb on it applies only to repeats, not to signal when turned on

everything else is pure awesome.the looper, the reverse, grand awesome.
Plan to use it aside either another delay and a reverb, or somekind of two-in-one deal that should handle those first two things.

That third thing though...You sure about that?

Around 3:53...."I'll just isolate the reverb" :idk:

It just seems to be pretty tweakable. Meaning I could get a bit more control over the modulation than what I'm used to, and I wouldn't be stuck with just one type of modulation either. Storeable presets, that's another nice touch you don't easily find in small-ish digital delay pedals in this price range. Also, the reverse mode seems to work different from the reverse modes on Boss delays. Tweaked the right way, it sounds more useable/musical to me. The looper also seems more powerfull, my previous delay peds that had onboard looping couldn't do any delay effects when they were in looper mode...:idk:

Came to say timebender but if you are gonna be that way then hmmm..

I can say now that if hell freezes over and I ditch my tb, then I'd get a timeline to replace it I think. If that was out of my budget, I'd try to find a nemesis used. If I had to go lower still I'd try the DL4 out. Probably mostly for the looper, which people say is awesome

Timefactor is awesome if you can hunt one down used. I enjoyed mine while I had it. Looper can get super weird, especially with an EXP Pedal connected and assigned to parameters like the loop length or feedback.

if you wanna keep it cheap and aren't caring about the looping try a dispatch master.

SMMH is not good for modulation, I'd say. It has one modulation setting and it's not very flexible.

I will say that one of the great things about it is being able to record a loop with any delay setting by just holding the tap switch, but I think a lot of delays do that now.

I don't think the SMMH is really what you want.

Oh also presets are nice but it's not so nice having to bend down to select them when you want to change them.

I put a bigger knob on the presets knob so I could move it with my foot. It only kind of works.

Also, SMMH never sounded very analog to me. I use it more like a digital delay.

Weird that I own and love the SMMH but keep saying bad things about it.
