anyone know of a way to do this, transparent dye or something like that?
i just hate the bright coloring of some of my pedals but don't want to lose their control labels and such...
and am scared to try something like that without fucking things up...

I'd think it'd have to be a transparent mask that'll cover the original and mix with the original color well.
But, I really can't think of anything else that would what you're asking other than and painting.
Maybe try asking in the DIY section for better expertise?

What about some semi transparent contact film. Remove th knobs, cut holes in the film for the pots and switches, have a miserable time sticking it on straight and pressing out the bubbles, put knobs back on, voila!

Does anyone remember those sticky book cover protectors? Maybe something like that would work

Yes! These are available at most craft stores for cheap, sort of like a less sticky version of contact paper. But I'm sure they don't look as cool as this contact paper

i actually have that stuff. straight up. we use it as replaceable cover for the shelves under our bar.
i totally should cover some pedal whose labels i don't care about with it.

I get wanting to cover those. My board is all white/gray/black except for one random big brown pedal. It always looks so out of place.
I picked up a pack of multi colored patch cables. Somehow this helped the color contrast to me. Made it less glaring or something silly like that. Its all about that pedalboard fashion, ya know?

I used to work with foil, like making signs and car decals so I know some about it. A roll of that film is super expensive, but I did manage to snag some samples of different transparent foils and like glow in the dark even. There are a lot of cool metallic, translucent colours and such. You could probably wrap a pedal quite easily as long as you measure, cut and apply it really carefully, and then either have cutouts around where the text is or paint/print/stamp on yr own writing. If you know of a place nearby that does decals on cars or signs/whatever, they maybe have small sheets left over that they might give you?
Or just spraypaint it black.

Yeah, I mean wouldn't that be cool? ...if you plan to never sell it. It's probably an awesome pedlol but the logo kind of looks like a severed penis.

Photoshop.
Which is to say... Take the photos of the pedals - the higher-rez the better - and manipulate them in Photoshop until you get the colours that you want. Print them out 1:1 on sticker paper, trim and apply to the pedals. Et voila... changed!
Or since they're both smaller makers, maybe hit them up? Lots of times the non-Boss pedal guys do alternate colour schemes, either one-off or small batches...
