I love this kind of Buddhisty avant pop shit.
Recommendations?

Not poppy, but you might like this record (and it's within the zip code):

Cool! I do like Lustmord, just never got into them, but sure I would if I tried. The stuff I heard sounding like humpback whales singing through an FZ-2 or something. Will definitely check that record out when I get home.

Lustmord is one dude

and he's sort of the progenitor of dark ambient (which is an awful genre name) but that record in particular is rooted around wordless (think Gregorian chanting, etc, or "buddhisty avant pop") vocal takes. Jarboe's on it. Maynard from Tool is on it. Aina Skinnes Olsen is on most of it and she's fucking incredible.
Your Boys at the 'fork gave it a pretty nice review, so don't just take my word for it.

Providence's own Assembly of Light Choir, who have been known to collaborate with The Body and other rock/noise folks:

"Your boys at the 'fork" — Puh-leeze, the only people I remotely fuck with in the P4K camp are Zoe Camp and Brandon Stosuy (the former because our tastes line up and she gets me, the latter for his incomparable knowledge of American black metal history). Jessica Hopper actively grinds my gears (for her dreadful, if admittedly important, essay dismissing emo as a boy's club).

Oh, I already knew this one, but it's awesome. I used to have the LP but it was sadly stolen from me. Does Iceland even have bad music or is it just that only the good stuff makes it to North America? I can't think of any bad Icelandic bands.

I don't know most of the stuff in this thread, but the title makes me think of the new Tim Hecker album.

Sort of off topic but there were a bunch of Icelandic black metal bands that played Roadburn who were supposed to be fucking awesome (I missed all of them, though).

Nice! Well, the existence of the bands, not the fact that you missed them.
How was Roadburn?
