This has been out about a month, but I just found it and started listening. So far, I like it, especially the starved fuzz solo on "Rainbow"; wonder if that's a Shiva/She-Fuzz?
There's also a crazy "Sometimes" cover.
Thoughts?

Haven't listened to it yet. This is the one where you're supposed to listen to both discs at the same time, right?

Whoa! They're doing the
Zeireeka thing again? I never even got around to doing it with
DroneEvil. I have an mp3 of the two albums combined but it feels like cheating?

Convenience is not cheating if someone got the mix ok.
If you're doing the whole double stereo thing, it's never gonna be scientific anyway.

True! Now that you say that, it occurs to me that that's probably the point.

Are there any bands with a discography as engaging and consistent as Boris? I mean, probably "yes," but theirs is definitely top-notch.

So brutally disappointed that the 4xLP is sold out and the only reason I couldn't order was because some dick used RFID scanner to steal my credit card and buy Macy's in Pennsylvania and i'm still waiting on a new Visa

Man, the Pitchfork review is infuriating.
It's a more modest rendition of The Flaming Lips's Zaireeka, enhanced by the twist of partnership between these longtime collaborators.
I mean, I made the
Zaireeka comparison too, because that's what these albums are like, but the review does not even mention the
DroneEvil album. It's written like this is the first time that Boris has done this. Wouldn't that be the proper start to the review? Boris is doing this
again? Anyway.
Both Merzbow and Boris have built enormous legacies by being monolithic in sound and singular in style, but those assets become liabilities here.
How has Boris's career been built on being monolithic in sound and singular in style? Honestly they've built a career on being absurdly diverse in style. One album is completely different from the next... psych, post-rock, drone, stoner, pop, crust punk, etc. I don't get the rationale for this statement really.
What's more, Boris' decision to plunder its back catalog for such an album dovetails with the recent feeling that this band, no matter how hard it tries, is simply running out of ground and energy. They couldn't even be bothered to write new songs for this old, borrowed concept. At least it's good to revisit the ghosts of a force that seems to be fading.
This coming from Pitchfork

Fuuuuuuuuuuuck you. Like, how many of these collabs have they done with Merzbow now? And they don't always write new songs for them. It's a fresh take on the old material. That's the point...?
Why did I even click the link?

I love some of the percussion-less Boris stuff. Very relaxing and familiar, and makes for a good rainy day clean the house mood.
The Merzbow stuff? I don't get it, prolly never will.
