How big does the tour have to be? I'm super bummed to be missing No Sun tonight as I close at work. Partially because all my friends are opening for them.

I saw Destruction Unit not long ago and thought of ILF. I was really into it but my buddy did not appreciate their use of contact mics and noise and other wonderful junk.

just small acts who're working to get bigger by getting out there. not quite headliners yet but worth attention, trying to put together two weeks or so of heading around different states.

for example i had a band from georgia who're on a three week run they put together play at my bar friday night. i don't have to love the music that happens at my place, but i totally did theirs, enough that i hooked them up adding them to saturday night's bill since they had a show fall through for that night.

i did that sorta stuff once upon a time. i want to find more acts like this who deserve help w/ what they're trying to do w/ their music.

Both The Superweaks and The Mad Doctors are totally awesome, and both have ILF connections.

Mentioned before on another thread a while back, but an up and comer I saw during SXSW was Palm, who are from Philly I believe. Sort of mathy, dissonant indie.

Another one I saw on Friday night here in Austin (amidst a criminally small crowd) was Hiss Golden Messenger. I don't know how well they'd fare with the ILF crowd, but it's sort of psychy Americana. The band is basically the output of one guy, I believe, but his backing band was fucking insanely good. Phil and Brad Cook from Megafaun, plus this guy Josh Kaufman who was by far the best guitarist I've seen in years.

EDIT: I wouldn't necessarily call HGM up and comers, as they've been around for a while, but they're definitely under the radar.

I just noticed that Palm is booked by the same agency (Flower) as Cybmals Eat Guitars.

CEG played another venue i'm friends w/ a while back. sucked that i was sick. have told mr. ss/bs to get at me next time.

i guess another way to put this is that by "small time" touring bands i mean people who are trying to get out there and all, and would be glad to get to play a place that can fit 200, even if local help can't make that happen on a weekday.

Yeah, you'd have to play ball to get Flower bands.

I don't know if they fit in this category, but I though I should mention one of my favorite bands:
ARABROT(or Ă…rabrot which they used to write it).
They play some kind of noise rock/post punk/weird metal hybrid.
Someone recently called them "the European Melvins", and there's something right about that.

Norwegian band, but they don't really play much in Norway.
But they tour a lot in Europe, UK and the states.
They have release 7 albums and several EPs. They have worked with both Steve Albini or Billy Anderson on most of their records.
Their sound, and lineup, has changed over the years, but I like all their records.
The early ones are more raw/intense/noisy and the later ones are "sophisticated"(really bad way to describe music, but couldn't think of a better word).
Cleaner vocals, more instruments, not as intense, but still dark as shit!

But I think a lot of people here would appreciate this band!
And they always have the best cover art:

They've got a dissonant Ten Grand sorta thing going on. Everything they release is better than what came before it.
