i most likely going to pick this up on Sunday. It will be my main amp and I plan on using it for shows. anyone have any information on this amp? I'm planning on re-tubing it when I get it. He said it works great and includes the footswitch. he said he would take 200 for it. I know pretty much nothing about tube amps.

Classic 50 was my first proper amp. Liked it well enough, only flipped because I wanted to go smaller. I'd easily pay $200 for another one.

Looks like an oldie, but if it's been taken care of and in decent condition, I'd say $200 seems more than reasonable. Bang for the buck whise it's hard to find a better deal that old peaveys imo. In that price range I can't think of many other good 2ch 50watt/2X12 tube combos that weren't made in the far east

Edit: Srry, I guess I confused that amp with an early version of what's currently known as the 'classic 50'. The one you're looking at could be something different though. I actually suspect it's one of those hybrids, with 6L6 power tubes and a solid state preamp. In that case, I have to idea how it sounds or how good of a deal it'd be. $200 still isn't a whole lot of money though

Check the fuse (pull it out, read what's on it). If it doesn't match the EXACT wording on what's on the amp chassis, walk away. That means the little stuff like SLO-BLO etc matter significantly.

That'll be a SS preamp era one, they don't sound terrible but the speakers are usually pretty junky IMO.

$200 is fair enough if it works well, and including footswitch. Chances are the footswitch is one of the funky Peavey DIN affairs that costs a ton to replace.

I think it might be a hybrid, says on the back all tubes are 6L6GC. But I like playing through clean amps, so it will probably work pretty well for me.

I actually have the same amp, it is a lot lighter than my Deuce. Tremolo is great. Sounds super thick when you crank it into overdrive. Can be very clean and loud as well. Solid state preamp and 6L6 power section. You can run the normal and bright channels independently, in series, or parallel, so lots of EQ and gain staging options. I am pretty happy with it. I only paid $150 for mine though. I think my favorite part about it is it can be as clean or aggressive as you want it to be.

thing is probably built better than a bomb shelter. in the dark future an animal will use this amplifier as a home as plant life has invaded our habitable spaces.

yeah these things are killer,
you get that cool peavey hiss which I have no issues with

have owned a few of the hybrid peaveys
they are plenty friggen loud and do some very cool stuff

and the modulation that add (phase/trem) normally sounds all kinds of ill

I think you will like it alot!

So I bought it, but I can only get a clean sound at very low volumes. in the normal input it starts to break up at 3...

Step one, same as any other tube amp: replace 'em.
