I've got one of these:

I like it. I don't know how good it is, but it meets your under $100 requirement.

I'm super happy with my Focusrite stuff. It doesn't color the signal at all, but that's what I want. The Audiobox should color your signal more in a pleasant way. I wouldn't buy any other interfaces in that price range.

Soooo this is a little off the wall, but I've been really happy using my field recorder with a usb. I run the headphone out of my amp (so that does make this irrelevant if you don't have an amp with a headphone jack) to my mic input of my field recorder to usb out to computer. I'm getting better results than with my proper interface. Can't remember what the interface is called but I know it's way over $100. My field recorder is just a zoom h2.

Oh shit. My practice amp has a headphone out. But my big glorious rig doesn't. What kind of results do you get just placing it in the room?

I honestly haven't even tried unfortunately. Only spoken word lecture stuff, or headphone out silent recording because my life as a student and dad is super lame.

I'm with you on that man.
I'm gonna look into that zoom right now. Thanks for the tip!

Mac? PC? How many inputs do you need?
Pretty much any of the big names will do about equivalently, big issue is are drivers available for your OS version.

Eventually/soon I'm going to have to figure something out along these lines.
The Zoom H field recorders are intriguing due to their portability potential.
I run Mac and need just one (stereo) input, so for the time being I've
just been running a split 1/4" to stereo 1/8" cord into the Mic input
on the back of my computer. Results aren't great... but seem usable.

I use Focusrite, Saffire series.
Exact same hardware as the Scarlet but Firewire rather than USB.
It's kind of perfect.
Unless you have some desire for quirky features or colouration, there is nothing better in the price range.
It's professional quality and I will be using mine until I am bones.

I'd like to start getting into interfaces myself. Anyone using a Scarlett SM57 combo?
