Oblivians Fuzz Tone

Heya folks, just wondering if anyone knows what kind of fuzz could make a sound like this....

https://youtu.be/WOuQ1MlkTOg

Reading interviews it seems like they used a tape deck amplifier but I'm fairly certain the same type of sound could be done with a blown out fuzz. Looking for something that's not too saggy either as I would like to be able to play fast with out the attack compressing too much.

Thanks!

I think a lot of the sound on that track is recording method (to rip a page out of the stick a boom box in the middle of the room engineering manual), would you be after that exact sound coming right out of your amplifier?

While there's definitely an element of chaos in the sound brought on by the lofi recording, there's definitely a squared off fuzzy sound coming from the "lead" guitar. I guess "zippy" might be another way to describe it, if that makes sense? I'm thinking a Demo Tape Fuzz with the fuzz cranked may get me in the ballpark.

Tape deck=mid-fi demo tape? Or by a four track and overload the input :thumb:

I could probably do that with the old Velcroar and an overloaded input. Would require copious EQing as well.

I think I can get a pretty similar tone from my tomkat bender. Volume maxed, Texture lowish, fuzz all the way off. Probably not all the way there, but I kind of think any similar pedal would get in that world? Then the rest can be fixed with recording
