NBD - oldschool hollowbody!

it's an old Musima, so I guess 60's/70's... Tuners have been swapped for new, tailpiece is also not original, someone added a knob (tone knob so you can have two volumes - probably gonna get rid of that)

Got it with rounds... nice but... I don't know. I'm not much of a rounds man. Put on a spare set of Roto 77's and it's pretty cool - quite short sustain, which is actually good for me. A bit janky, the body is a bit rough around the edges (literally)... The neck is HUGE. Like U shape and HUGE.

all in all... seems like a really cool addition :) I'm wondering what music it will inspired and how it gets used with the band... also how much it howls with dirt and higher volumes in general - it is a true hollowbody

:animal:

it was cheap as fuck, too :)

Might get a set of medium scale Chromes for it instead (after next paycheck). I think I actually got a bad set of Rotos with a bad E, I used to have trouble with it even on the P/J... It's pretty dead I think.

Like the sustain is short in general, but the E since like... 7th fret sounds close to being muted all the time

(or I might try emailing them and asking whether it's possible to order a single medium scale E in a decent gauge directly)

edit: they only do medium/short scale E in 90. Which is just impossible

Yeah, it'll probably take a little while to get it set up how you like. Good luck.

Nah I don't think so. I'm usually into higher action anyway, so that¨s good, I just think I got a bad set of strings :)

emailed Rotosound. Will see... I can always get the Chromes, would not mind at all

Thanks guys :)

the only sunburst instruments I really dig are hollowbodies - and only some at that.

It'll be fun to get used to the quirks

Just ordered a set of medium scale Chromes. I found very conflicting info about using wrong scale strings and the Roto E is dead and has been faulty ever since I bought the pack for my P/J probably (always loads of deadspots and some deadness)

Stoked. Plus... you know... blue silk :!!!:

Congrats. Please change that third knob. Or don't.

If it's anything like my hollowbody bass, it'll scream like a motherfucker. If for some reason you're not into that, gated fuzz is the way to go. Brassmaster clones are good too.

I'm contemplating removing it :idk: no reason to have dual volume knobs here

NIce Bass, I really like the inlaying in the f-holes! I think the short sustain is inherent from hollowbodies, there's less material to resonant. Also I do approve of playing it loud and figuring out how it reacts to feedback, and what volume where you can control it.

I'd change all the knobs so they look alike, having two volumes and a tone control is super useful for me.

I bet it gets dubby with the neck pickup singled out.

well or I'd remove the third knob and just have two volumes. I don't use tone knob, i pick differently and elsewhere :idk:

I never got that "at what volume you can control it"... It's not like I can choose the volume we play at  Worst case scenario I'll put in a bit of foam as a simulated centerblock.

Can't wait for the strings to get here and to try it in the studio on Sunday (hopefully)

ps: Rotosound rep got back to me. He's sending me a 090 medium scale E gratis as a replacement for the dead E - how nice of them :) although I might not use these (because the only possibility of med. scale is 090 and that's unusable for me), it's good to have the at hand
