what good rat type pedals are out there these days?

I think I need a new rat-based distortion for my bass. I haven't been paying attention for the last couple years, what's around now? Looking to spend about $200, or less. I don't like the mooer type ones and I had a fuzzrocious rat tail and was pretty unimpressed with it. Prefer the vintage LM308/N sound, it'll be running through a crossover effects loop so low end loss isn't a huge worry but something to tame the high end sizzle is a must. Any suggestions?

Rat Tail is awesome, even has pretty good bass response on its own. Mine had a metal can LM308 for hella mojo. Can't recommend it enough!

Have you tried the sub $40 "little bear rattack"? I think I like it more than my rat

Has turbo, vintage, and dirty modes, and is def tuned darker than standard.

Not sub $200, but you might pick up a used one for that...maybe....you checked out the Dunwich Volt Thrower?
RAT fans were super impressed with that.
I think Nick did a one knob version on the cheap(er), as well.

Haven't tried it but the don't shred on me deluxe seems pretty cool. Btw, how many rat-threads has there been last few weeks? Don't mean to break the one rule of ILF but I feel like they keep coming back.

+1 Dunwich Volt Thrower.
I know I recommend this everytime a RAT or bass distortion thread comes up, but it really is that good. Like if I had to only keep 1 OD/distortion/fuzz to use for the rest of my life, it would be a VT. It just sounds so fucking massive as soon as you turn it on.
Most versatile RAT on the market. Offers 6 clipping options, dual LM308Ns and running at 18 to 36V total (it automatically doubles the voltage you put in, so if you run it at 9v than its doubled to 18v).

hmmm the dunwich thing sounds cool but possibly a little too much for what I need. Blower box looks interesting, will defs check that out. Friend has the little bear one and says its okay, will also look into that. Thanks! Sorry didn't realise there were multiple rat threads!

Blower Box is the one I liked the most on bass that I've tried.
Excane's demo is pretty good at showing the tone
