Recommend me a delay that sounds like the rain.

Hot on the heels of my last thread (not going to pull the trigger on the TC. Gonna save up for something cooler instead. Too many bills right now anyway.) I've got some time to think about this now I've calmed my GASsy udder.
I want a delay that makes everything sound like the rain.
Devin Townsend nerds will know what I mean.
Necessities are: trails & does not do that annoying pt2399 thing with the noise on the first repeat.
Bonuses are: cheap.
Super team awesome GO!

Vibe with a tape delay sort of thing. I use FL-9 flanger for vibe and Boss RE-20 as the delay. Though I'm not sure You'll be totally convinced since I'm not a Townshend nerd.

Haha, I had never come across dude you were talking about, but he is funny! If I would try to make stuff sound like actual rain I'd probably go for something with a lot of noise, and layering with another delay on top. Quite sure this isn't what you mean though. RE-20 seems really cool, and if I had to buy another standard kind of delay I'd go for that one. It doesn't have any modulation though, which kinda bums me out. However, since I obviously don't know the sound you're going for here I'm just gonna show my self out from this thread

Are you trying to achieve the ol' Deadhead sound? He used to use (until just recently) the Roland GP 100 rack delay. So basically any diffused digital delay/reverb will suffice. Set it huge but low on the mix and you're already there, in essence.

mind you that a lot of the part in Townsend sound is that he records tracks complete dry and then he records separate completely wet fx tracks that are sometimes slightly different than their dry counterparts.

Also, he picks the strings with the flat part of one of those enormous pizza picks to make his attack a lot longer, which changes the delay sound.
Pizza picks are best picks.

I was like "no one knows what's up" but you do know that
Yeah, I'd go with digital, bonus points for any EQ option to make it all hipassed and sparkly, or at least pretty sharp if not hipassed. Rack might be your best choice although I don't like rack stuff.
And yeah, big and long but LOW in the mix. That and the EQing should keep it out of the way but achieve the rain
ps: such a good sound aesthetic to try and tackle
PPS: actually come and think of it the RE-20 could be a great idea since it has an EQ section

Moar clips or Moar Alainis.
Daily reminder that Pope hates the Eurythmics.

DD-500 has a full parametric EQ, so it'll get you there.
He also uses TC electronic stuff, in fact I think he has a flashback tone print for his sound.

Oh you know what could work too? Because it's the right kind of sharp and cold and spacious? Boss RV-3

this is what makes me think of that PROPER DT sound. Fucking love the track too, it makes me feel AMAZINGLY excioted every time i hear it
but shit yeah, if TC has a toneprint and if the DD-500 has such crazy EQ options then you'd be set
