I'm still reeling from the loss of my all time favorite. musical hero. I'd love to hear some of ILF's experiences with his music over the years.

Tonight, my band has joined another group of musicians to pay tribute to him. We planned the gig weeks ago as a sort of birthday tribute, and its definitely taken on a much more serious connotation. We are doing a ton of deep cuts...So much inspiration to be had here.

I think he's a pretty underrated guitarist. Most of the guitar work on Diamond Dogs is just him, so many great noisy, feedback ridden, flanged guitar moments.

I've only listened to the "German" trilogy or whatever those 3 albums are called and I really like them a lot that I don't want to listen to anything else.

Guess I should have known better with this crowd. Hah.

Currently listening to all his studio albums of original material 1970-1980 (Man Who Sold The World to Scary Monsters - screw Pin Ups), right now in the middle off Ziggy (Star to be exact) but Life On Mars is freaking magnificent amongst the overall awesomeness!

His last two albums are my favorites so far, I think.

My dad got me into Bowie because he's a huge fan. First started off loving Ziggy and Hunky Dory (who doesn't?), gradually explored all the rest of the catalogue through his collection.

A big moment in my appreciation was reading something about Outside offhand a few years ago, which I had never heard of before. I bought it on a whim and was blown away. I had heard a lot of sides to Bowie before, but not this! It's an often maligned period in his work, but I should never have listened to people who said bad things about his 80s/90s output. I think a huge part of why so many people respect him as a musician is the constant drive to try out different styles, and managing to pull them off and make them his own. It's such a fresh approach in a sea of artists who release the same sort of album over and over for their whole careers.

The last two albums have been incredible, and it's sad to think about what could have come later if he didn't die. But I can't think of any other musician who could leave behind such a delicious, sprawling, varied body of work for us to appreciate.
