Seriously, this "Year in Music"-thing is creeping me out!

For those of you using Spotify (I bet you already know this, but still) there's this
feature that once you give it access to your account it analyses what you've listened to in the past year and presents it in a few different lists based on month, season, genre etc. That's kind cool. I love lists and analysis (just assuming it's accurate here btw) like that. Besides this it can create playlists for you based on your most played songs this year. I'm not really into playlists. I listen to full albums 99% of the time.
But it can also present you with a "songs you've missed but we think you'd like"-kinda list. I tried that. While I mostly still buy music and listen to it on cd/vinyl and (well honestly I haven't had a cd or record player for 3 yrs now, but I rip em to) itunes it's still made a pretty good list of suggestions. I mean. Not a lot of the stuff on the list really holds up, although a lot of it sounds similar to stuff I like, the suggestions tend lack that certain thing that really makes me dig it. But it does a good job summing up what I imagine other people feel I listen to.
Am I the only one a little fascinated, but mainly creeped out by this? I mean, come on, there's a pretty decent big brother-feel to this and I actually almost feel a bit offended. Thoughts?
Ps. I got Nu metal as my number two genre this year, although I don't and haven't considered to actively listen to that stuff in at least 8-9 years.

Guess old habits die hard. Ds.

I don't use spotify but the only difference is that it's being curated by an algorithm, rather than a person.

Gotten some pretty good suggestions from big bro. I for one welcome our new digital overlords.

Agreed. I love how they try to profile me. And honestly, even though just 1-2 tracks out of 20 every week is great — that's pretty decent.

I want to be stereotyped
I want to be classified

Yeah Spotify does a pretty good job of suggesting music for me.
Just this week it recommended Desperate Journalist based on me listening to music that D.o.S. hates so don't bother checking them out man.

I'm not saying I don't like the suggestions. I just find it a little creepy that companies are profiling people so much. I mean, suggestions are good, but it's all about being able to get as much money from people in the end, right? And yeah, the concept has been there for a while but it's really made a jump with techonology lately I reckon.

Occult-Tittycore will never be recognised as a legimate genre.

I' m working on something that I would
love to use that as a genre, but I'm only 33% of the vote this time around so who knows.

Dude, I'm hoping to get home recording capable within the next year or so. I'd totally start an Occult Tit worship project with you.
Just in case you need to get that out of your system.

I've been using Apple Music because it's curated by people. Regrettably the metal section doesn't usually offer up new stuff for me to listen to and it often makes suggestions based on what you bought so I get a ton of Jay Z because I bought the Jay Z Unplugged album. The problem is that it regularly suggests rap to me when I seldom want to actually listen to it. That said, being able to use Siri to say "Play songs by Bolt Thrower," is pretty awesome.

Yeah I was more talking about the difference between taking someone's actual in-person rec. and taking a rec. from Skynet. I don't use apple music either (not a big digital music buyer here).

Apple Music put together the sickest factory records dance mixes playlist for me the other day. There were four different mixes of that new order soccer song thats really just about barebacking sweaty sports bros. Fucking best time ever.
