i'm mainly a guitarist & drummer & guy who messes with synths, but i've played bass in one band. used a sovtek 100b and two 15s.

orange wants something else. doesn't have to be loud, just nice, and not too pricey. any suggestions / recommendations?
:animal:

'loud' 'nice' and 'pricey' are all super subjective, dude.

That said, GK, solid-state ampegs, Peaveys, would be my first recommendations.

YOU'RE super subjective, dude. ;)

i just know i wanna do this and haven't really started looking until today. if i don't find something else i'm interested / curious in i'll probably just go w/ a small orange. i'd like at least trying something else though.

Yeah I mean the bass terror sounds perfectly serviceable and could be considered cheap but they're about double the cost in my mind when I think of 'cheap'.

Also I think I already know but are you looking at tubes or SS gear?

i'm a tube junkie but am not really that picky between the two when it's a bass amp.

for example i've heard some of the acoustic (brand) heads are nice, and they're all solid state far as i know...

Yeah the vintage acoustics are well-regarded for a reason. Guitar Center bought the name and tried to bring them back a few years ago -- I think the consensus was to avoid those .

For 3 to 4 hundo you can buy a couple 70's solid state amps

This was the first thing on reverb that caught my eye

Mace, Deuce, any of the Classic models that have power tubes other than EL84s, MX.

I'd add Traynor to the list. I haven't looked since I got mine, but I think that a) prices are slowly going up but that b) there's still deals to be had.

Try Craigslist before ebay. Ebay means shipping, which means more cash out of your pocket and fewer things available for sale as too many people are too lazy to list/ship heavy items.

yeah, cbus craigs doesn't too often have some nice gear on it though, surprisingly.

it's a snob comment but i think most of the music scene just offers gear to others in it that they know. i always do that myself before bothering with craigs. and fuck selling on ebay.
