I'm feeling keen to have a go with some anyone got any favourite types that might be fun to start with?
What does one look for in a diode anyway?
Any even partially relevant information is likely to be useful :hobbes:

The most important thing with diodes is the forward voltage drop rating.

Germanium diodes have drop of about .35v - .4v.

Silicon diodes have a drop of about .7v.

LEDs have a wide range, but usually the diffused ones are about 1v to 1.2v, and the clear ones vary based on wavelength (color), but can go up to 2v+.

Lower forward voltage = more clipping at the same output level.
