ENGL amps?

I've never taken a close look at ENGL, there's always been too many other otpions that seemed more interesting for me.

-They look like ass
-They seem to be popular for music styles I usually try to avoid like the plague.
-They're packed with feautures and bells and whistles I never have any use for.
-I'm sure that quality is alright and all that, but they cost way more than what I usually like to spend on an amp.

Anyway, if anyone feels like hyping his engl amp, let's hear it.

The thing is, I've been offered a Souvereign 1x12 in a trade, and value-whise it seems like brand new the ENGL goes for roughly 3x what my amp costs new these days...:idk:

So since I'm not getting a helluva lot of better offers, I figured it might make sense to do this trade and to flip the ENGL...:idk:

Unless you're playing some kind of modern metal you probably won't gel with the Engl.
There's a chance you may really like the clean channel (they're fairly versatile from what I understand, which may be wrong) or some of the low gain sounds, and then you can use pedals for dirt, so it may be worth checking out with your rig.
Flipping it for profit is certainly not a shit idea, though.

The clean Part of engl is good. Takes Pedals well. Normally you don't get an engl for clean.
Overdrive and Full on could Be cool to. I think the souvereign is the Combo Version of the Savage, which i owned (25 years ago). You could get really Bassy Death Sounds out of it too. The tone controls are pretty extrem (as far as i recall) and could shape your whished tone perhaps...

A friend of mine is a huge Engl fan boy.
He plays mostly metal but for solos runs a fuzz war and or a WMD Geiger counter into the clean channel. It sounds awesome.
Very versatile amp.

You know how Kaizer makes every pedal sound like a metal distortion? All exactly the same despite of effect type? His amp choices have a lot to do with that.

I tried a used engl powerball at guitar center just cause it was there. Ran it through an old peavey 2x15, plugged in a schecter hellcat bass VI and just got real excessive. Other than that application I cant recommend em.

I had an ENGL Screamer for years and was soooooooo good. I had a Gigmaster 30 that was alrightish.

ENGL goes pretty cheap on the used market.
