:idk: Coincidentally it has slide switches in the same area that I installed a jaguar switchplate, in my good strat..

I think it looks pretty cool for what it is. If I can get it for the right price, I might keep it as a beater/backup. The guy wants $75 for it, I offered $50 under the assumption that it's nothing special. Was just curious if anyone might recognize what brand or model it is, or what factory it may have come from.

There's a strap button on the back of the neck as opposed to the horn. I don't think it's string-through, either.

That's about the extent of my identification as well.

Really difficult to tell anything from those photos though.

Yeah! I think it has an interesting visual appeal, even if it is probably a piece of shit guitar.

A lot of great sounds come from piece of shit guitars, really.

Seems like bottom of the line mij, 70s. Hondo seems to be the most common brand for them, like so:

Yea, looks like early cheapie MIJ or the original Indian Sunn-era (don't, just don't, they're....bad) Strats.

$50 would probably be worth it if nothing else for parts, to abuse beyond belief, or throw in a domestic dispute.

Indian sunn strats are pretty dang good, real nice rosewood necks and solid (also kafukin heavy) bodies. Just swap the cheep hardware. But sadly that isn't one.

Seen ones marked Sunn with almost identical necks to that, they're not all (or even mostly, that I saw cross the table) rosewood.

Ok, perhaps we got different ones in the UK. All the Indian sunn strats over here are basically rebranded squier IIs, they have a bit of a cult following with guitar modders over here due to there solid build and being able to buy them for pennies.

They predated the Squiers by a decade here.

The Indian Sunn Mustang is a pretty decent piece of lumber. I have a red one, that has a two piece Indian mahogany body, heaviest fucking strat I've ever played. Solid neck, and the rosewood board on mine is nicer than any of my Gibson's or Fender's.

The pickups are actually pretty nice and most likely Maxon made, mine has the s-s-h config and the singles read out at 9k and the bucker at 13k.

Everything else sucks, the 2" string spacing and bridge plate mounting bolt spacing makes it impossible for bridge upgrades. I grounded down steel saddles to size for that added luxury. The tuners, electronics, and nut are garbage and need tossed as well. After a few cheap upgrades this guitar is my favorite beater.

The Made in China Sunn Mustang is a real flaming bag-o-shit, crap lumber, crap everything, also own one of these, It's smashed up and was set on fire one evening, really love my custom finish and the melted knobs add to the appeal. But hate everything else about it, hence being burnt and destroyed.
